Another MJHL grad is skating in the NHL.
Former Winnipeg South Blues’ standout Ryan Garbutt was recently recalled by the Dallas Stars.
Garbutt, 26, was recalled from the Texas Stars, Dallas’ primary affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Garbutt, 26, has played in 50 games for Texas this season, scoring 16 goals and 17 assists totaling 33 points. He ranks fourth in overall scoring for Texas and first with 96 penalty minutes. The 6-1, 195-pound forward from Winnipeg, MB was signed by Dallas as a free agent on Sept. 18, 2009.
Garbutt enters his third professional season in 2011-12. In his 116 games with Brown University he tallied 58 points (29g-29a) and 203 penalty minutes. During his final season at Brown he was named to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team. In his junior year he set his college career high at 23 points in 29 games (12g-11a) . Garbutt was fourth overall on the team with 19 goals scored and was fifth overall on the club with 37 points in 65 games for Chicago during the 2010-11 season.
