MJHL Announces January Players of the Month Winners

The RBC Player of the Month for January is Dexter Kuczek of the Winnipeg Blues.

The 19-year-old forward was on fire during a very cold January, reflected in 22 points (9-13) in 11 games played. Kuczek, who hails from Winnipeg, currently leads the MJHL scoring race with 31 goals and 74 points in 45 games.

Thanks to the play of Kuczek and his teammates, the Blues posted a blazing 8-1-1 record in January.

The runners up are 20 year old forward Landyn Cochrane of the Virden Oil Capitals and 20 year old forward Drew Worrad of the Steinbach Pistons.


Sher-Wood-MJHL Defenceman of the Month

The Sher-wood Defenceman of the Month is Darby Gula of the Steinbach Pistons.

The 19-year-old rearguard was a runner-up for this award in December. He continued his strong play in January, highlighted by 12 points (3-9) in 10 games.

The native of Steinbach is one of several Pistons committed to NCAA schools: Gula has committed to Bemidji State.

The runners up are 20 year old Mackenzie Dwyer of the Portage Terriers and 19 year old Riley Shamray of the OCN Blizzard.


MGEU-MJHL Goaltender of the Month

The MGEU Goaltender of the Month is Jeremy Link of the Winnipeg Blues. The 19-year-old netminder was a key contributor in the Blues’ outstanding January: 8-1-1.

Link, who hails from Winnipeg, put together a 6-1-1 record in January, with a 2.60 GAA and save percentage of .910.

The runners up are 17 year old Matthew Thiessen of the Steinbach Pistons and 18 year old Ethan Peterson of the Swan Valley Stampeders.


IBAM-MJHL Rookie of the Month

The IBAM Rookie of the Month is Austin Heidemann of the Steinbach Pistons.

The 18-year-old forward played strong in both ends of the rink, highlighted by 12 points (3-9) in nine games for the MJHL’s No. 1 club.

A native of Maple Grove, MN, Heidemann has an overall season total of 43 points (19-24) in 47 games.

The runners up are 16 year old forward Joey Moffatt of the Portage Terriers and 17 year old forward Jaymes Knee of the Dauphin Kings.


Manitoba Pork Peak Performer of the Month

The Manitoba Pork Peak Performer of the Month for January is 19-year-old Virden Oil Capitals forward Dylan Thiessen.

Dylan has volunteered at a number of community events including the Virden Minor Hockey School, Mary Montgomery School family night, and was a guest speaker at the Manitoba Student Leadership Conference. Dylan is also an assistant coach for a Virden minor hockey team.
