The Manitoba Junior Hockey League is proud to salute a player each week for an outstanding performance from the past seven days.
Week 26 -- Ryan Dreger -- Dauphin Kings
Ryan Dreger has been named this week’s Potters Distillers Player of the Week, after scoring the overtime winner in Game 1 of the MJHL championship final.
Dreger’s goal came in the first overtime period, snapping a scoreless deadlock against the Addision Division champion Winnipeg Saints. The victory gives the Kings a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven Turnbull Trophy final. Game 2 goes Tuesday night in Dauphin, returning to
Dreger’s heroics were not surprising, considering he led the MJHL in goals scored with 53. The 20-year-old makes up one third of the MJHL’s most feared trios: Dreger, Bryce Lamb and Shane Luke.
Runners-up for the Potters Distillers Player of the Week award were a pair of goaltenders: the Kings’ Joe Caligiuri and Saints’ star Justin Leclerc.
Veteran forward Cole Pruden, who is one of the reasons why the Winnipeg Saints are in their second MJHL championship in the last three seasons, has been named this week’s Potters Distillers MJHL Player of the Week.
The
Runners-up for the Potter Distillers MJHL Player of the Week award were Chris Reimer of Swan Valley Stampeders and Steven Shamanski of Dauphin Kings.
Reimer, 20, scored six points (4-2) in three games last week. Shamanski, 20, tallied six points (1-5) in three games for the Kings.
Week 24 -- Blake Chartier -- Winnipeg Saints
Winnipeg Saints’ veteran forward Blake Chartier is enjoying an outstanding post-season, highlited with his selection as this week’s MJHL Potter Distillers Player of the Week.
Chartier, 20, exploded for four goals in two games in helping the Saints build a 2-0 lead over Winkler Flyers in their best-of-seven Addision Division final. Game 3 goes Tuesday night at

Runners-up for the Potters Distillers Player of the Week award are a pair of Dauphin Kings - Steven Shamanski and Bryce Lamb.
Shamanski, the recent winner of the MJHL’s top defenceman award, leads all playoff scorers with 12 points (4-8) in six games. Lamb, 20, was hot on the powerplay last week with two goals coming with the man advantage.
Week 23 -- Nick Lazorko -- Winkler Flyers
With three overtime goals in three consecutive games, Winkler Flyers Nick Lazorko has emerged a true playoff hero, earning him the MJHL’s Potters Distillers Player of the Week honour.
The veteran Winkler forward couldn’t have picked a better time to be a playoff hero, as his overtime goals resulted in his Flyers eliminating arch-rival Selkirk Steelers 4-2 in their best-of-seven Addison Division semi-final series. It was sweet revenge for the Flyers, who just a season earlier had been eliminated by the Steelers.
Runners-up for the Potters Distillers Player of the Week award were Myles Stevens of Swan Valley Stampeders and Brendan Baumgartner of Selkirk Steelers.
Stevens, 20, scored six points (2-4) in helping the Stampeders eliminate defending MJHL champions Portage Terriers in five games.
Baumgartner, 20, had an outstanding playoff series scoring five goals in four games for the Steelers.
Week 22 -- Jordan Peters -- Winkler Flyers
Jordan Peters, a valued member of the Winkler Flyers, has been named the MJHL’s Potter Distillers Player of the Week.
The veteran defenceman was a key contributor for the Flyers, who won Game 2 of their playoff series against Selkirk Steelers. The best-of-seven Addison Division matchup is now deadlocked at a game apiece, with Game 3 going Tuesday in Selkirk.
Peters, 20, had a strong offensive showing in Game 2 reflected in two goals and four points. The big D-man (6-foot-1, 195-pounds) was his usual steady self along the Winkler blueline.
Runners-up for the Potters Distillers Player of the Week were
Stevens, 20, recorded three points (2-1) in his two games with the Stampeders, who are deadlocked 1-1 against defending MJHL champion Portage Terriers.
Goaltender Matt Krahn ended the MJHL’s regular season on a high note, capturing the Potter Distillers Player of the Week honours.
The 18-year-old was practically unbeatable last week, posting an unblemished 3-0 record, turning aside 85 of 88 shots he faced. The Winnipegger’s excellence was reflected in a sparkling 1.00 GAA and .966 save percentage.
Krahn, who fills the net standing 6-foot-1, 200-pounds, is now preparing for the post-season. Natives, who finished fourth in the Sher-Wood Division, take on pennant winners Dauphin Kings.
Runners-up for the Potters Distillers Player of the Week were Portage Terriers’ goaltender Jason Kasdorf, 17, who went 2-0 last week and Dauphin Kings’ Shane Luke, 19, who exploded offensively with 10 points (2-8) in his final four games.
Dauphin Kings’ forward Shane Luke, who is challenging for a scoring title, padded his stats a bit more last week, earning him Potters Distillers Player of the Week honours.
Luke, 19, recorded eight points (2-6) last week, with one of his goals coming via the powerplay. The offensive outburst gave the steady King left winger a total of 91 points (27-64), two back of teammate Ryan Dreger, who continues to sit atop the scoring race with 93 points (47-46).
Luke, who hails from Saint Rose du Lac, and Dreger make up two thirds of the MJHL’s top offensive line, with linemate Bryce Lamb sitting third in the scoring race with 88 points.
This trio, in addition to an outstanding support group, have propelled the Kings to first overall in the MJHL this season.
Runners-up for the Potters Distillers Player of the Week award were Shael Hechter of Winkler Flyers and Jason Kasdorf of Portage Terriers.
Hechter, 20, enjoyed a strong offensive week reflected in three goals and seven points in total for the Flyers, who sit third in the Addison Division behind leaders Winnipeg Saints and Selkirk Steelers.
Kasdorf, 17, was once again steady in the Terriers’ net as he posted a 2-0 record last week, with an impressive 1.50 GAA and .944 save percentage.
Week 19 -- Devin Mitzner -- Dauphin KingsDauphin Kings continue to lead the MJHL thanks to the performance of its entire lineup - highlited this week by forward Devin Mitzner who has been named the Potters Distillers Player of the Week.
The veteran from Strathmore, Ab., was red hot offensively last week as he collected nine point (4-5) in three games. Two of his goals came via the powerplay.
Kings, who have won 45 of 56 outings this season, continue to set a franchise record for victories with each win. The previous record for franchise wins was 43. The Kings will also participate in this year’s national Junior A championship tournament as Dauphin plays host to the 2010 RBC Cup this spring.
Runners-up for the Potters Distillers Player of the Week honours went to Mitzner’s teammate, Mitch Czibere and Portage Terriers’ goaltender Jordan Washburn.
Czibere, 20, was a key member of the Kings’ offensive attack last week, reflected in four goals (two via the powerplay) and nine points in total.
Washburn posted an unblemished 2-0 record last week for the Terriers, highlited with a sparkling 1.00 GAA and .962 save percentage.
Week 18 -- Justin Leclerc -- Winnipeg SaintsWinnipeg Saints’ goaltender Justin Leclerc is quickly establishing himself as one of the top netminders in the league, reflected in his selection as the MJHL Potters Distillers Player of the Week.
With less than one month of play in the MJHL, Leclerc has now captured two player of the week honours. Last week the 20 year old
In 120 minutes of action, Leclerc’s goals against average was a miniscule 0.50, while his save percentage was near flawless at .983.
Prior to joining the Saints, Leclerc has guarded the nets for the Kamloops Blazers and Lethbridge Hurricanes for the past five years, compiling 82 wins and a 3.48 goals against average. During his three years in

Runners-up for the Potters Distillers Player of the Week award were Waywayseecappo Wolverines’ goaltender Brett Gagnon, 19, and Swan Valley Stampeders forward Shelby Gray, 19.
Week 17 -- Wes Pawluk -- Neepawa Natives
Neepawa Natives went undefeated last week thanks in large part to the offensive outburst of veteran forward Wes Pawluk, who has been named the MJHL’s Potter Distillers Player of the Week.
Pawluk, 20, held a hot scoring hand, reflected in four goals (two via the powerplay) and six points in total. The native of Petersfield, who was acquired recently via trade from Selkirk, has been a reliable player in the Natives’ lineup.
Thanks to their three-game win streak last week, Pawluk and teammates are one point back of third-place Portage Terriers in the Sher-Wood Division. The Natives own a 26-16 record, good for 55 points.
Natives’ coach Bryant Perrier attributed the club’s success to self discipline and keeping focused on the long-term goal: playoffs.
"We played hard, but we did things the proper way and we kept things simple," said Perrier, who saw his team win its eighth game in 11 starts, since the Christmas break.
Runners-up for the Potters Distillers Player of the Week Award were goaltender David Aime of OCN Blizzard and Ryan Marshall of
Aime, who grew up in Clandeboye – just down the road from Pawluk’s hometown – posted a 1-1 record last week, with a .942 save percentage and 2.50 GAA.
Week 16 -- Niko Grose -- Wayway Wolverines
Niko Grose exemplifies the ‘never-say-quit’ attitude of the Waywayseecappo Wolverines, earning him the MJHL’s Potters Distillers Player of the Week honour.
Despite having a season with more losses than victories, Grose and Wolverines continue to provide stiff competition for their opponents. In four games last week Grose exploded for five goals and six points in leading the Wolverines to consecutive victories over Selkirk Steelers.
Grose, 20, has been the offensive leader of the Wolverines, maintaining a better than one-point per game pace: 45 points (18-27) in 43 games. Wayway sits sixth in the Sher-Wood Division with a 13-32 record.
Runners-up for the Potters Distillers Player of the Week award were Adam Stoykewych of Winnipeg South Blues and Neepawa Natives’ goaltender Matt Krahn.
Week 15 -- Justin Leclerc -- Winnipeg Saints
Justin Leclerc is making an immediate impact for the Winnipeg Saints, reflected in being named the MJHL’s Potters Distillers Player of the Week.
Leclerc, 20, was acquired earlier this month from the Melville Millionaires. He’s quickly adjusted to the MJHL, reflected in a 2-0 record, 2.83 GAA and .923 save percentage last week.

Note: Media are reminded that the Winnipeg Saints will be playing the Portage Terriers this Thursday at the MTS. Game time is 7:30 p.m. This game is an annual event, with the winner receiving the Darryl Steen Memorial Cup, named in honour of the Saints’ long-time trainer/supporter.
Week 14 -- Brendan O'Donnell -- Winnipeg South BluesBrendan O’Donnell, 17, is considered one of the ‘Young Guns’ on the Winnipeg South Blues. Today, the slick forward added another title to his name - MJHL’s Potters Distillers Player of the Week.
The
O’Donnell, who also played for Team West at the World Junior A Challenge, is also in contention for the MJHL rookie scoring race, seven points behind leader Eric Coulombe of Steinbach Pistons, who has 42 points (9-33).
Runners-up for the Potters Distiller Player of Week award were David Conrad of Winnipeg Saints and Colan Jackson of Selkirk Steelers.
Conrad, 18, put in two strong games last week evidenced by his seven point (4-3) output. Saints continue to lead the Addison Division with a record of 25-14-3 and 55 points.
One of the reasons why Winnipeg Saints sit first in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Addison Division is the strong play of veteran forward Blake Chartier.
Last week the Winnipegger scored two powerplay goals and added another two assists while holding the man advantage, earning him the Potters Distillers MJHL Player of the Week honour.
Chartier, 20, has been on a hot pace of late, reflected in his nine points (2-7) over the last three games in which the Saints posted a 2-1 record over that span. Overall, Saints sit first in the very tight Addision Division with a 23-14-3 record.
Chartier also leads the Saints’ point race with 20 goals and 61 points in 42 games.
Runners-up for the Potters Distillers Award were Winnipeg South Blues forward Brendan O’Donnell and Steinbach Piston Mike Gemmill.
O’Donnell, who was a member of Team West at the recently held Prospects Game in Winkler, tallied six points (2-4) over a three-game period last week. The 17-year-old from
Gemmill, who hails from Stonewall, was on a goal-scoring binge with four in two games last week.
Week 12 -- Jordan Washburn -- Portage TerriersJordan Washburn of Portage Terriers has been named the MJHL Potters Distillers Player of the Week.
Washburn, 19, posted a perfect 3-0 record last week, helping the Terriers climb to third place in the Sher-Wood Division with an 18-10-2 record. Dauphin Kings continue to lead the division with a 34-5-1 record.
Washburn has the dubious task of replacing a goaltending icon in
Meanwhile, Washburn, who played last season with Melfort Mustangs, is hoping to continue his winning ways and push the Terriers up the Sher-Wood Division standings.
Runners-up for the Potters Distillers Player of the Week honour were Josh Schappert of Selkirk Steelers and Brad McDonald of Swan Valley Stampeders.
Schappert, 20, exploded for nine points (4-5) in three games last week for the Steelers. McDonald, 19, had a goal-scorers dream last week, reflected in six goals and eight points in four games for the Stamps, who sit second in the Sher-Wood.
Week 11 -- Brendan Baumgartner -- Selkirk SteelersBrendan Baumgartner didn’t take long to make a good impression on his new Selkirk Steeler teammates, management or fans. The 20-year-old forward, who was recently acquired from Dauphin Kings, exploded for three goals and seven points, earning him the Potters Distillers MJHL Player of the Week honours.
Baumgartner, who was traded for another Steeler fan favourite Justin Michaud, made a quick adjustment to his new surroundings as he also chipped in a powerplay goal for the Steelers, who went undefeated in their three games last week.
Runners-up for the Potters Distillers Player of the Week award went to a pair of goaltenders: Matt Krahn of Neepawa Natives and Peter Alexander of Winkler Flyers.
Krahn, 18, posted a 2-2 record last week for the Natives. He recorded a highly respectable 2.00 GAA and .934 save per centage.
Alexander, 19, went 2-0 in the Flyers net, enroute to a 2.00 GAA and .938 save per centage.
Week 10 -- Myles Stevens -- Swan Valley StampedersOne of the reasons why Swan Valley Stampeders are enjoying a renaissance season in the MJHL is the play of key veterans as Myles Stevens.
The 20-year-old Stamp forward exploded for six assists last week, earning him the Potters Distillers MJHL Player of the Week honour.
Stevens, who hails from Norway House, also scored two goals enroute to an eight-point week for the Stampeders, who recorded a 2-1 record over that span. Stamps sit second in the Sher-Wood Divison with an impressive 20-12-1 record.
Last spring the Stampeders missed the playoffs and team management committed themselves to returning the club into the post-season. The rebuilding process is returning dividends reflected in the team’s second-place status.
Runners-up for the Potters Distillers Player of the Week honour were Mitch Czibere of Dauphin Kings and Tyler Swerdyliak of Neepawa Natives.
Czibere, 20, recorded eight points (2-6) for the Kings who remain atop the Sher-Wood Division.
Swerdyliak, 17, went on a goal per game pace last week, scoring four goals in as many games for the Natives. In total the big forward – 6-ft, 3 – recorded six points for Neepawa who sit fifth in the Sher-Wood Division.
Week 9 -- Ryan Dreger -- Dauphin KingsRyan Dreger is truly a king among the Kings….as in Dauphin Kings.
The veteran 20-year-old forward currently leads all MJHL snipers with 27 goals and last week collected another honour after being named the Potters Distillers MJHL Player of the Week.
Dreger, who hails from Dauphin, exploded for six goals and 10 points in four games last week for the Kings who went 3-1 over that span. Kings continue to lead the Sher-Wood Division with a sparkling 26-3-1 record.
Dreger sits second in the MJHL points race with 55, one back of teammate Shane Luke. King forward Bryce Lamb, who has 54 points, rounds out the top three MJHL point getters.
Runners-up for the Potters Distillers Player of the Week honour were Darcy Riddell of Swan Valley Stampeders and Troy Smukowich of Winnipeg South Blues.
Riddell, 20, recorded nine points (2-7) last week for the Stamps, who with 38 points sit second in the Sher-Wood Division.
Smukowich, 20, scored three goals and four points in two games for the Blues, who sit second in the Addision Division, one point up on Selkirk Steelers. Winnipeg Saints continue to lead the
Swan Valley Stampeders’ Chris Reimer took his offensive game to a new level last week, earning him the Potters Distillers MJHL Player of the Week honour.
The 20-year-old Stamp vet exploded for seven goals and 12 points over four games last week. The Morden native scored two goals on the man advantage for the Stamps, who recorded three wins over the four game span.
Stamps, who missed the playoffs last season, sit second in the Sher-Wood Division with a record of 16-10-1 and 33 points – 14 back of division leading Dauphin Kings.
Reimer couldn’t take all the credit for the Stamps’ successful week. Stamp teammate Myles Stevens was equally dangerous on the ice, registering four goals and 11 points in four games.
Stevens and Jordan Sinclair of OCN Blizzard were runners-up for the Potters Distillers MJHL Player of the Week.
Sinclair, 20, recorded eight points (2-6) in three games for the Blizzard.
Week 7 -- Taylor Dickin -- Selkirk SteelersTaylor Dickin experienced a sniper’s dream last week, exploding for 11 points in four games. Thanks to this offensive output, the Selkirk Steelers’ forward was named last week’s MJHL Player of the Week honour.
Dickin, 20, scored six goals and five assists for the Steelers who went .500 last week with a 2-2 record. Steelers sit second in the Addison Division with 27 points, three back of division leaders Winnipeg Saints.
Runners-up for MJHL Player of the Week were Dickin’s teammate Colan Jackson and Winnipeg Saint forward Cole Pruden.
Pruden, 18, also showed his fondness for the net with four goals in two games.
Don’t let his last name fool you. Bryce Lamb of the Dauphin Kings is all lion when he skates out onto a hockey rink.
The flashy King forward showed his claws last week, exploding for seven points (4-3) in four games, earning him last week’s MJHL Player of the Week honours.
Lamb, who hails from Killarney, is a key cog in the Kings’ potent offensive attack, which boasts the league’s top three point getters. Lamb, 20, is tied for second with teammate Ryan Dreger with 36 points apiece. They are four back of league leader Shane Luke.
Kings, who posted an unblemished 4-0 record last week, remain atop the Sher-Wood Division with a sparkling 18-1-1 record and 36 points.
Runners-up for the MJHL Player of the Week honours were OCN Blizzard goaltender David Aime and Selkirk Steelers Taylor Dickin.
Aime, 20, recorded an impressive 1.92 goals against average, and .926 save per centage last week for the Blizzard, who sit fourth in the Sher-Wood with 19 points.
Dickin, who leads all Steeler scorers with 24 points, scored three goals and seven points last week.
Week 5 -- Craig Simchuk -- Winnipeg SaintsWinnipeg Saints sit atop the MJHL’s Addison Division thanks to solid play from veterans such as Craig Simchuk, who has been named the Player of the Week.
Simchuk, 20, enjoyed a consistent week offensively, reflected in eight points (2-6) over four games for the Saints, who have 10 wins and 22 points in the Addison Division.
Simchuk is one of a few remaining vets on a Saints squad, which was hit hard this season by graduation of several key players. A hard-working forward, Simchuk sets the example for the younger Saints in the lineup.
Runners-up for MJHL Player of the Week were Shane Luke of Dauphin Kings and Robbie McCarthy of Steinbach Pistons.
Luke, 19, was a scoring machine last week with six points (3-3) in two games for the Kings who continue to lead the Sher-Wood Division with 29 points.
McCarthy, 20, enjoyed thee strong games for the Pistons last week, reflected in two goals and six points.
Week 4 -- Jordan Hebert -- OCN BlizzardThe OCN Blizzard are enjoying a solid season this year, thanks in large part to the scoring exploits of Jordan Hebert, who was named the MJHL Player of the Week.
Hebert, 19, exploded for five goals - three on the powerplay - and six points in three games played last week. The native of Ile des Chenes is a key member of the Blizzard who are tied for second in the Sher-Wood Division with 16 points (8-6 record). Dauphin Kings continue to lead the Sher-Wood with 12 wins and 25 points.
Runners-ups for MJHL Player of the Week were goaltender Jordan Dreger, who posted a 3-0 record in net last week for Winnipeg South Blues. Over that span he earned a respectable 1.67 goals against average and .952 save percentage.
Veteran Winnipeg Saints’ forward Craig Simchuk scored eight points (2-6) in three games last week. Saints sit atop the Addison Division with 16 points, one more than cross-town rival Winnipeg South Blues.
Week 3 -- Shane Luke -- Dauphin KingsSitting atop the entire MJHL with 10 wins in 11 starts, Dauphin Kings are gearing up to host the RBC Cup in the spring of 2010. Much of the team’s early success can be credited to the outstanding play of veteran Shane Luke, who has been named this week’s MJHL Player of the Week.
Luke, a 19-year-old from Saint Rose du lac, was on fire on the Kings’ powerplay, evidenced by his three goals while holding the man advantage. In three games Luke tallied six goals and eight points, helping the Kings post an unblemished 3-0 record last week.
Luke now sits third in the MJHL scoring race with eight goals and 19 points, just two back of leader Ryan Marshall of Swan Valley Stampeders.
Runners-up for Player of the Week honours went to Seth Ronsberg of Winkler Flyers and Jory Geddes of OCN Blizzard.

If Tyler Moore’s nickname isn’t ‘Tyler Terrific’, perhaps it should be. Last week the veteran Portage Terrier exploded for five goals, earning him Player of the Week honours last week in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, Commissioner Kim Davis announced today.
Runners-up for the award were Ryan Marshall of Swan Valley Stampeders and Ryan Dreger of Dauphin Kings. Marshall, who won the award the week previous, continued his hot streak with 10 points (4-6) in three games. The 18-year-old is atop the MJHL scoring race with 19 points, two more than teammate Darcy Riddell.

Week 1 – Ryan Marshall - Swan Valley StampedersLast spring the Swan Valley Stampeders found themselves on the outside looking in during the Manitoba Junior Hockey League playoffs. Ryan Marshall is determined to not let that happen this season.

Runners-up were Selkirk Steelers goaltender Joey Rewucki and rookie forward Zach Franko of Winnipeg South Blues.
Rewucki, 18, owns a 2-0 record with a healthy GAA of 1.62 and .950 save percentage, with the Steelers sporting two wins and shoot-out loss after three games.
