Stampeders’ Chartrand Commits to Northland College

Submitted by Swan Valley Stampeders

The Swan Valley Stampeders are proud to announce that forward Daniel Chartrand has committed to play NCAA Division 3 hockey with the Northland College Lumberjacks.

Daniel Chartrand started his Junior A hockey career with the Dauphin Kings in 2015. Over the course of 3 years Chartrand has also made stops with the OCN Blizzard (MJHL), the La Ronge Ice Wolves (SJHL), and then the Swan Valley Stampeders (MJHL). Chartrand found a home in the valley after coming over from the Ice Wolves of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. His veteran presence and leadership were on full display both on and off the ice. He tallied 4 goals and added 8 assists in 24 games while wearing the Stampeders colours. The 5’11” 170lbs Forward has played in 164 games scoring 36 goals and adding 49 assists in his Junior career.

“I choose Northland because they play in one of the best leagues for Division 3 hockey,” said Daniel Chartrand. “It’s close to home for family and friends to come visit. Northland also has the most Canadian born players on their roster, so i can easily adapt to their playing style and fit right in. Another big part of me choosing this school is I get to live and play alongside one of my old teammates and good friend, Shane Roulette. I cannot wait for the season to start.”

“When we received word from the Stampeders that Chartrand was available we were hopeful he would consider Northland College,” said Seamus Gregory Head Men’s Hockey Coach/Associate Athletic Director at Northland College. “We have been familiar with him as he has been in the MJHL since the 2015 season. This season he was little under a point per game and we believe he has a very high ceiling with a lot of skill and a high compete level. He will make an immediate impact to our lineup as a Freshmen. He excelled under Coach White and we know that will continue here. Daniel was an easy admit due to his performance in the classroom and we are thrilled he has chosen Northland College to continue his post-secondary education”.

“Daniel was a type of player that could bring energy to the lineup on a nightly basis,” said Head Coach and General Manager Taurean White. “His veteran presence on the bench was felt on a nightly basis. We as an organization are very proud of Daniel for his commitment to Northland College. He is truly deserving of this opportunity.”

Head Coach and General Manager Taurean White continues to provide a very positive atmosphere in Swan River. One that allows the players to stay focused and committed to their long term goals of making it to the next level.

The entire Swan Valley Stampeder Organization would like to congratulate Daniel Chartrand on his recent commitment to play Division 3 hockey with the Northland College Lumberjacks.
