CALGARY, AB – The Northern Manitoba Blizzard scored four goals in the third period to comeback and beat the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Greater Sudbury Cubs, 6-3 on Saturday night in Calgary.
6:55 into the first period, Greater Sudbury scored on a powerplay to take a 1-0 lead over the Blizzard. Northern Manitoba would get a powerplay chance of their own but just couldn’t quite get going.
The Blizzard took over in the second period, outshooting the Cubs, 16-5 and found the back of the net early when Jack Linton worked hard to beat his man and slide the puck to the back of the net.
In the third, Sudbury took the lead just 19 seconds into the period before the Blizzard would answer back on the powerplay thanks to a blast from Cheechoo Lathlin. Tied at 2-2, Brett Ward would score another on the powerplay only to see Sudbury answer back 31 seconds later.
Alexandre Andre and Tyler Dahms scored goals 37 seconds apart with under five minutes to play in the third while Jack Linton would add his second of the game on the empty net to give the Blizzard a 6-3 win.

The win in regulation gives the Blizzard three key points in their pool, putting them in the drivers seat after three days of play with four total points after earning a single in an overtime loss to the OJHL’s Trenton Golden Hawks.
The Blizzard will enjoy a day off from game action on Sunday and return to the ice on Monday night when they take on the Kam River Fighting Walleye of the Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL).
