Blizzard, Kings extend series lead to 2-0

WINNIPEG, MB – The Dauphin Kings beat the Portage Terriers, 4-2 on Sunday night to take a 2-0 series lead while the Northern Manitoba Blizzard extended their series lead to 2-0 following a 3-1 win over the Winkler Flyers in second round action of the McMunn & Yates Turnbull Cup Playoffs.

A pair of second period goals from Keenan McNeill and Cael Primanti made the difference in game two on Sunday night as the Northern Manitoba Blizzard took a 3-1 win over the Winkler Flyers to earn a 2-0 series lead.

Following a scoreless first period, Keenan McNeill scored another big goal for the Blizzard, this time a powerplay marker at 7:58 into the second. Four minutes later, Cael Primanti’s first of the playoffs got by Liam Ernst to give Northern Manitoba a 2-0 lead.


It was a very quiet third period on the scoresheet with no penalties or scoring until the final minutes. Brody Beauchemin brought the Flyers back into the game when he scored with under three minutes to play, only to have Quincy Supprien spoil the comeback effort and regain the Blizzard two-goal lead with 51 seconds remaining.

The Blizzard and Flyers will travel north to The Pas for games three and four on Wednesday and Thursday night.

Three powerplay goals led the Dauphin Kings to a 4-2 win over the Portage Terriers on Sunday night in Dauphin to give the Kings a 2-0 series lead.

For a second straight game it was Caleb Lepitre who would open the scoring to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead after notching another late powerplay marker. Matthew Thomas scored his third of the playoffs in the early going of the second on the powerplay to lock the game at 1-1 when no more than 18 seconds later, Dawson Madden’s fourth of the postseason regained the Terriers lead.

The Kings would go on to score three unanswered in a ten minutes stretch in the second from Rylan Gage, Cayden Glover, and Ethan Williment. Cole Sheffield made 24 saves to close the door and seal the win for Dauphin, helping the Kings to a 4-2 win in game two.
