Blizzard sweep Flyers on way to Turnbull Cup Final

WINNIPEG, MB – Quincy Supprien scored on a shorthanded breakaway with 1:22 left in overtime to win game four, 2-1 to complete the sweep of the Winkler Flyers and send the Northern Manitoba Blizzard to the Turnbull Cup Final for the first time since 2017.

Marlen Edwards gave the Blizzard a 1-0 lead in the second period which they would hold on to until late in the third. With under eight minutes to play, Andrew Morton tied the game for the Flyers which would end up sending these two clubs into overtime.

In overtime, Quincy Supprien knocked the puck away from the Flyers when Miguel Bouvier sprung Supprien in alone on Liam Ernst. Supprien went to the backhand and slid it through the five hole of Ernst to give the Blizzard a 2-1 win in game four, completing the series sweep of the Flyers.

Taye Timmerman was outstanding in the Blizzard crease once again on Thursday, making 30 saves for a second straight night. He enters the Turnbull Cup Final with an 8-1 record to go along with a 1.79 goals against average and 0.934 save percentage.


The Blizzard now wait to find out who they will play as the Dauphin Kings hold a 2-1 series lead over the Portage Terriers in the second semi-final matchup.
