Flyers take series over Blues, advance to round two

The Winkler Flyers have advanced to the second round of the 2022 MJHL Playoffs.

It took six games between the 2nd and 3rd place teams in the MJHL East division for the Flyers to come away victorious in their first round matchup against the Blues. From puck drop in the first period of game one this series was a roller coaster from start to finish. The home team was the victor in each game up until game six when the Flyers took their third straight.

Flyers (2) vs Blues (3)
Game 1: Winnipeg (3) @ Winkler (9)
Game 2: Winkler (0) @ Winnipeg (1)
Game 3: Winkler (3) @ Winnipeg (5)
Game 4: Winnipeg (3) @ Winkler (4) F/2OT
Game 5: Winnipeg (1) @ Winkler (3)
Game 6: Winkler (4) @ Winnipeg (2)

After an offensive outburst in game one, the Blues took back to back games from the Flyers and looked poised to take a commanding series lead. The tuning point took place when the Flyers came back and took a double overtime victory on home ice in game four. Winnipeg had the opportunity to take a 3-1 series lead but a strong push from the Flyers and a late goal in the second overtime gave them a win and the team never looked back.

Should the Dauphin Kings wrap up their series on Friday night against Swan Valley, Winkler and Dauphin will meet in the second round.
