Flyers, Terriers, Kings & Blizzard earn Game 3 wins

WINNIPEG, MB – The Dauphin Kings took a commanding 3-0 series lead on Tuesday night while the Flyers, Terriers, and Blizzard each took a 2-1 series lead in their respective best-of-seven first round matchups in the McMunn and Yates Turnbull Cup Playoffs.

The Winkler Flyers fought off the Niverville Nighthawks comeback effort as Brady Craik scored the game winner with under six minutes to play in the third period to give the Flyers a 4-3 win in regulation.

A tied first period saw goals from Max Lavoie and Sean Williams before Brody Beauchemin and Liam Carlone gave the Flyers a 3-1 lead in the second period. Luke Wagner cut the Flyers lead to 3-2 in the back half of the second before Evan Panzer tied the game in the early stages of the third. Brady Craik would spin and fire in the puck off a broken play in front that would stand as the game winner, giving Winkler a 4-3 win and a 2-1 series lead.


The series shifts back to Niverville on Thursday night when the Nighthawks host the Flyers in game four.

Terriers 4 Pistons 1 | Flyers lead best-of-seven series 2-1
Nolan Nenow scored a pair of goals while Mitchell Kathler had an easier night in making 15 saves to help the Portage Terriers earn a 4-1 win in game three over the Steinbach Pistons.

Both of Nenow’s goals came on the powerplay for Portage in the early stages of the first and third period. After Jamie Fuchs cut into the Terriers lead in the third, Dawson Madden regained the lead for Portage just over a minute later. Adam Belzil would add some extra insurance for the Terriers as he would notch his first of the playoffs to give the dogs a 4-1 win in game three.


The Pistons will travel to Portage to take on the Terriers in game four on Thursday night.

Kings 3 Wolverines 2 F/OT | Kings lead best-of-seven series 3-0
Gavin Nemis scored 3:29 into overtime on Tuesday night to give the Kings a 3-2 win over the Wolverines and a commanding 3-0 series lead.

The two clubs exchanged a pair of goals in the second period as the Matthew Thomas gave the Kings a lead before Maddox Mason tied the game. Minutes after Cayden Glover regained the Kings lead, Sebastian Stone tied the game heading into the third period. After a scoreless third period would head to overtime, Gavin Nemis won a puck battle below the goal line before skating out to the top of the circle and firing in the overtime winner. Of note, Wolverines goaltender, Mariko Bercier stopped 53 of 56 shots in the loss.


Game four is set for Thursday night in Waywayseecappo when the Kings will look to sweep the series while the Wolverines will try to extend the best-of-seven to game five.

Blizzard 5 Titans 4 | Blizzard lead best-of-seven series 2-1

The Northern Manitoba Blizzard rallied back from down 4-2 to win 5-4 thanks to three goals in the third period including a shorthanded game winner off the stick of Quincy Supprien.

The Blizzard and Titans exchanged a pair of goals in the first period as Ryan Gower gave Neepawa a lead before Cheechoo Lathlin tied the game. Minutes after Carter McLeod regained the Titans lead, Louis-Jacob Beauregard tied the game heading into the second period. The Titans took control in the second period as Kyle Weisgarber and Carter McLeod scored minutes apart to give the Titans a 4-2 lead.

In the third, Northern Manitoba scored three unanswered goals from Marlen Edwards, Aaron Krestanowich, and a beautiful shorthanded breakaway from Quincy Supprien which would stand as the game winner to give the Blizzard a 2-1 series lead. Game four is set for Wednesday night in Neepawa.
