Reid Gow is going to be working with the Oil Capitals as a full time assistant for the upcoming 2019/20 season.
Gow was well liked in his 1st season as a “mentor” assistant last year with the hockey club. Respected by the players, coaching staff, and the organization; this season Gow will be joining Ramsey on the bench in a larger role with the team. Gow, who works with Farm Credit Canada (FCC) (in Virden and surrounding area), will be taking part in practices and attending the majority of games throughout the season; all the while being a big part of Ramsey’s staff both on and off the ice. Gow was previously involved with the Southwest Cougars AAA Bantam program as an assistant coach. Gow’s playing days included a stellar WHL and MJHL hockey career.
Gow is ecstatic about the opportunity: “I’m super excited to be more involved this year. The Oil Capitals are a great team, in a great community, this is the perfect opportunity for myself to get back into the competitive hockey world, being involved more day to day. Tyson, Jamie, Marc, and the rest of the staff will be a great group to be a part of and work alongside with. We have an exciting group of returning players, and some high end 1st year guys coming in and I can’t wait to get the season started. I feel very privileged to be on the bench with Rammer and all the players this upcoming season.”
Marc Berry filling roles off the ice as Assistant GM for the upcoming 2019/20 season.
Berry has been involved with the hockey club for over a year now, filling different roles off the ice where was needed, and assisting in many different scouting areas. Marc brings a lot of experience and a wealth of knowledge, previously from his time with the Dauphin Kings, where he was Head Coach and GM, and through the ranks as an assistant coach at different levels of hockey prior including time as assistant with the Yellowhead Chiefs of the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League. Marc will be assisting Ramsey and the hockey club off the ice from a business perspective, while helping with hockey related duties as well.
Berry is elated about the role moving forward, “I’d like to thank Tyson, Jamie, and the Oil Capitals for the opportunity. It’s an exciting time to be a part of the organization moving forward. We have a great group of players and with this staff, we can really make some additional strides this year as a hockey club both on and off the ice, and really proud to be a part of it in a larger role.”
GM and Head Coach, Tyson Ramsey is elated about the additions.
“It’s a real exciting day for our organization to be adding 2 guys that bring a wealth of experience at many levels. In Reid we get a guy that is not that far removed from playing at a high level and the experience he will bring while being able to relate to our guys on a level where the gap in age is not overly large is going to be invaluable for us as a group. He will run our defense corps and be heavily involved in the on-ice skill development of our hockey club. I am really excited to work with Reid.”
“In Marc we get a guy with a ton of experience in junior hockey and in particular in the MJHL. Marc and I have similar vision of what is necessary to be successful in the game today and in junior hockey and I look forward to working with him on the player personnel side of our organization. Marc brings experience off the ice in helping drive the club forward from a business perspective as well. Marc will play a role in helping foster some of our corporate partners with our hockey club, all the while injecting fresh ideas for our club off the ice.”
