Swan Valley Stampeders Captain, Ben Groome, was recognized last week as the Stampeders RBC Community Ambassador.

Groome has displayed outstanding citizenship and sportsmanship both on and off the ice and a commitment to volunteerism. RBC Community Ambassadors are recognized for making a difference by giving back to their time to the communities where they play.

“It’s a huge honour and it means a lot to me,” Groome explained. “It’s a small and really close community up here (Swan River) so the kids are always looking up to us, whether it’s at the rink or in the classroom it’s a ton of fun making an impact on their day. I remember looking up to junior players when I was a kid and they were great to me so I hope to have the same impact on kids in the community.”

Like Groome, each Ambassador is recognized at their RBC Game Night and will be honoured by a donation from RBC to a school or program in their local community.

“My favourite part of bein around Swan River is seeing how much everyone supports us and wants us to do well, giving back our time is a great way we can show our appreciation for all the support the community gives to us.”

At the conclusion of the regular season, one RBC – MJHL Community Ambassador will be named as the recipient of the RBC Community Award, which comes with a further donation from RBC in the player’s name to a school in their local community.
