IBAM Scholarship awarded to Flyers’ Townsend

Winkler Flyers graduating forward, Jaden Townsend is this year’s recipient of the Insurance Brokers Association of Manitoba (IBAM) Scholarship Award.

Townsend received a $2000 cheque from IBAM that will go towards his schooling this fall at the University of Manitoba. In a typical year, Townsend would have received his award at the IBAM Presidents Dinner but due to the ongoing pandemic, the dinner was cancelled.

“I’m honoured to be the recipient of the 2020 IBAM Scholarship Award,” Townsend shared. “This scholarship will greatly assist me in pursuing my post-secondary education.”

“I would like to thank the Winkler Flyers and Swan Valley Stampeders organizations for all their guidance and for providing me with an exceptional junior experience. I would also like to thank my teammates, billets and family in providing me the support I needed to achieve my goals.”

After spending three seasons with the Swan Valley Stampeders where he captained his club to an appearance in the MJHL finals in 2019, Townsend spent his 20-year-old season as captain of the Winkler Flyers after being acquired in an off-season trade. The Roblin, Manitoba product set a great example on and off the ice during his career with a commitment to leadership and community involvement.

The MJHL would like to thank IBAM for their continued support of junior hockey in the province and are grateful to present this scholarship opportunity to our players of the present and future.
