The Winnipeg Blues, one of the most historic franchises in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League are seeking a driven, high-performance leader to take on the dual role of Head Coach & General Manager.
This is more than a coaching position. It’s an opportunity to lead a program, shape a culture, and build a team that competes at the highest level of junior hockey. We are looking for a builder, someone who thrives on developing elite players, identifying and recruiting top talent, and creating an environment where athletes are challenged, supported, and prepared for the next level.
The ideal candidate brings energy, accountability, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, both on and off the ice. They will set the standard for how the Blues play, prepare, and represent themselves, while driving the organization forward with a clear vision and a commitment to winning the right way.
The Role
As Head Coach, you will be the driving force behind the team’s on-ice performance and the primary architect of player development. You will work closely with the General Manager to recruit, retain, and advance players to the next levels of hockey (NCAA, USPORTS, WHL, and Pro).
Key Responsibilities
- On-Ice Leadership: Design and execute high-tempo practice plans and lead game-day bench management.
- Player Development: Create individual growth plans for athletes, focusing on both skill acquisition and tactical IQ.
- Recruitment: Assist the scouting department in identifying and recruiting top-tier prospects locally and across North America.
- Culture Building: Maintain a disciplined, professional, and competitive dressing room environment.
- Video Analysis: Utilize film to provide feedback to players and prepare pre-game scouting reports on opponents.
- Community Engagement: Act as a proud ambassador for the Winnipeg Blues in the community and with media partners.
Qualifications
- Experience: Previous coaching experience at the Junior, Collegiate, or Professional level is preferred.
- Certification: Must hold (or be willing to obtain) Hockey Canada High Performance 1 (HP1) certification.
- Communication: Exceptional ability to communicate with modern athletes, parents, and stakeholders.
- Vision: A proven track record of success and a clear tactical philosophy that aligns with the fast-paced nature of the MJHL.
