MJHL partners with Pan Am Concussion Program

WINNIPEG, MB – The Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) is excited to announce that we have partnered with the Pan Am Concussion Program (a WRHA clinical initiative) for the 2021-22 season.

The MJHL is committed to advancing player safety standards and this partnership will allow for improved access to medical care for MJHL athletes with suspected concussions. The Pan Am Concussion Program is a provincial government-funded program that provides multi-disciplinary care to patients with concussion and traumatic brain injuries.

“We are pleased to be able to provide our teams and athletes with additional supplementary concussion support through this partnership,” shared MJHL Commissioner, Kevin Saurette. “Working with the Pan Am Concussion Program allows us to further optimize the robust concussion care already provided across the MJHL.”

Each MJHL athlete will have the opportunity to be assessed and managed by a Pan Am Concussion Program physician who will provide the athlete with written documentation indicating what activities they are medically cleared to return to. The physician will also provide the athlete with written documentation indicating when they may return to full contact practices and game play. For athletes living in rural and northern communities, some care may be able to be provided through telemedicine.
