MJHL Power Rankings presented by BUNGE | Week 5

1 – Steinbach Pistons (-)
This week: 2-0
Overall: 10-0-1
Solid throughout the lineup, even missing key pieces hasn’t slowed them down. Their backend helps drive play and has put up big points. Special teams are coming along, and goaltending has been the backbone. The scariest part for teams around the league is that there is still a higher ceiling for this team.
Player Spotlight: Evan Gradt – 1 goal, 2 assists in 2 games
Up Next: Oct. 24th @ Niverville, Oct. 25th vs Niverville, Oct. 29th @ Neepawa

2 – Niverville Nighthawks (+3)
This week: 3-0
Overall: 9-1
Finding ways to win, collecting two points almost nightly, that’s all that matters to Niverville right now. Strong starts where they put teams on their heels, but have allowed them to come back late. Never down, they find a way to pull out the win and collect big points in their climb up the standings.
Player Spotlight: Merik Boles – 4 assists in 3 games
Up Next: Oct. 24th vs Steinbach, Oct. 25th @ Steinbach, Oct. 28th @ Selkirk

3 – Portage Terriers (-1)
This week: 2-1
Overall: 7-3-1
After a pair of lacklustre efforts, the Terriers showed their resolve, bouncing back with a very nice home win. Finding the line between hard to play against and being goaded into taking penalties. Puck-moving defenders allow them to cut up the ice quickly, keeping the opposition on their toes at all times.
Player Spotlight: Edward Knittig – 2 goals in 2 games
Up Next: Oct. 23rd @ Virden, Oct. 25th @ WPG Blues, Oct. 26th vs Waywayseecappo

4 – Dauphin Kings (-1)
This week: 2-1
Overall: 8-2-4
Took a bit of time to wake up in their first game, and when they did, they dominated. Couldn’t do the same the next night, but clearly learned a lesson, coming out with a complete effort. Dangerous offensively. Will find that constant level of compete, then be very tough to stop.
Player Spotlight: Brett Magarrell – 1 goal, 3 assists in 2 games
Up Next: Oct. 25th vs Selkirk, Oct. 26th vs Winkler, Oct. 28th @ Northern Manitoba

5 – Selkirk Steelers (-1)
This week: 0-1-1
Overall: 10-2-1
Fighting back has become a bit of a staple for the Steelers of late. Although they couldn’t get all the way back in a couple of games, they showed they won’t give up. After scoring 13 goals in the first game of the month, they’ve combined for 20 in the following 7 games.
Player Spotlight: Remy Hlady – 1 goal, 1 assist in 2 games
Up Next: Oct. 24th vs Waywayseecappo, Oct. 25th @ Dauphin, Oct. 28th vs Niverville

6 – Virden Oil Capitals (-)
This week: 1-1
Overall: 7-4
Solid from top to bottom. The group is still looking to find that level where they can get positive results every night. Will continue to be around the top of the MEGU West Division. Fast and structured, Virden seems to be dangerous any time in the offensive zone.
Player Spotlight: Noel Englot – 1 goal, 1 assts in 2 games
Up Next: Oct. 23 vs Portage, Oct. 25 @ Northern Manitoba

7 – Winnipeg Blues (-)
This week: 1-1
Overall: 4-5-2
Massive win over one of the teams they are chasing in the division. Results are starting to come. The effort and hard work has not been the question, but the group is proving they can score without giving up goals. Still give up too many shots, but strong goaltending has proven they are in every game regardless.
Player Spotlight: William Marceus – 1 goal in 2 games
Up Next: Oct. 25th vs Portage, Oct. 26th @ WPG Monarchs

8 – Winkler Flyers (+3)
This week: 2-1
Overall: 4-7-1
A sigh of relief may be a bit much, but there’s more of a relaxed feel after the Flyers pulled off a pair of solid wins. Caught between what they have been and what they are now, the group will look to build on what has made them successful of late. Could use recent games to launch themselves forward.
Player Spotlight: Tanner George – 3 goals, 2 assists in 3 games
Up Next: Oct. 24th @ Swan Valley, Oct. 25th @ Swan Valley, Oct. 26th @ Dauphin

9- Swan Valley Stampeders (+1)
This week: 2-1
Overall: 4-9
Throwing out the last game, because those nights happen, the Stamps have to be encouraged by the way they’ve gone about filling the net. Big wins on home ice can put other teams on notice. Three more home games to close out the month have Swan in position to make a jump.
Player Spotlight: Gavin Bartha – 4 assists in 3 games
Up Next: Oct. 24th vs Winkler, Oct. 25th vs Winkler, Oct. 28th vs Waywayseecappo

10- Northern Manitoba (+2)
This week: 2-1
Overall: 2-6-1
Very impressive weekend on home ice for a club that needed and then got a well-deserved win. A young group finding their way together as a team. There’s a good identity forming, and if they can keep working in all three zones as a team, there will be more success.
Player Spotlight: Isaac Tomchak – 3 goals in 3 games
Up Next: Oct. 25th vs Virden, Oct. 28th vs Dauphin

11 – Waywayseecappo Wolverines (-3)
This week: 1-1-1
Overall: 6-6-1
Massive and needed response after coming up short in back-to-back efforts. Waywayseecappo needed a game where multiple players impacted the scoresheet. As an added bonus, they were able to put up the big number on home ice, giving their fans a treat.
Player Spotlight: Cole Hunter – 1 goal, 3 assists in 3 games
Up Next: Oct. 24th @ Selkirk, Oct. 26th @ Portage, Oct. 28th @ Swan Valley

12 – Neepawa Titans (-4)
This week: 0-1-0-1
Overall: 3-7-0-1
Putting the results aside, the Titans battled and competed in a way that will make them successful going forward. No quit in the group, and if teams give them space, they will make them pay. Still need to work as a collective to bring goals against down.
Player Spotlight: Talen Wallis – 2 goals, 1 assist in 2 games
Up Next: Oct. 29th vs Steinbach

13 – Winnipeg Monarchs (-)
This week: 0-3
Overall: 1-14
Put a real scare into one of the top teams in the MJHL before eventually falling in regulation. Couldn’t find the same type of push in the following games. Reverted back to giving up too many shots, too many goals, and not finding enough of their own. Proved there is something there, but need to find it more often.
Player Spotlight: Idris Alameddine – 1 goal in 3 games
Up next: Oct. 26th vs WPG Blues
