MJHL, SJHL announce Western All-Star Showcase

WINNIPEG, MB – The Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) and the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) are joining forces to present the Western All-Star Showcase in Warman, SK. This pivotal event will serve as a pre-selection camp for Team Canada West who will compete in the prestigious World Junior A Challenge in Camrose, AB this December.

The World Junior A Challenge is an annual event held by Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) and NHL Central Scouting that features some of the top national teams and players from around the world.  This years event will include Canada East, Canada West, Sweden (made up of NHL prospects) and the United States (made up of USHL all stars/NHL prospects).

The Western All-Star Showcase, set to take place from November 4th to 6th in Warman, SK, will serve as a highly competitive pre-selection camp for Team Canada West. Forty of the top 19U prospects from the MJHL and SJHL (20 players from each league) will compete in on-ice sessions and game play during the event in front of Team Canada West staff and scouts from all higher levels of hockey.  The event will provide players from the MJHL and SJHL an amazing opportunity to showcase themselves in front of many scouts while trying to earn an invite to the Team Canada West selection camp (30 players will be invited from the western CJHL leagues) being held in Calgary in December.

The SJHL and MJHL continue to be development leaders at the Junior A level both on and off the ice. Both leagues enjoy strong competitive balance, year on year advancement increases to higher levels of hockey, are extremely competitive at the national level, and have strong community involvement and support.

Kevin Saurette, MJHL Commissioner stated, “The MJHL is excited to continue to grow our partnership with the SJHL for the benefit of all involved. This event will give elite athletes from each league an incredible opportunity to showcase their skills and abilities in a high-performance environment in front of scouts from Team Canada West along with other elite levels of hockey including the NHL.”

About the MJHL

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League is one of nine Junior ‘A’ Hockey Leagues in Canada and is a proud member of the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL). The MJHL exists to provide the best hockey development opportunities for players. The Mission Statement of the MJHL is “To provide each player with an elite hockey development experience with a strong emphasis on education and citizenship”. Currently, there are thirteen (13) member franchises in the MJHL.

The role of the MJHL is to develop elite players and ultimately have them develop into elite citizens who make a positive contribution to their community. Communities with a Junior ‘A’ hockey club generate their spirit in and around the community arena facilities.
