On their way to the Final, Niverville took out the Winkler Flyers in four games before defeating the Waywayseecappo Wolverines in five. On the other side, Virden won four straight over the Neepawa Titans before downing the Steinbach Pistons in six.

In four regular season meetings between the Nighthawks and Oil Capitals, Niverville went 3-1, outscoring the Oil Capitals 22-5. In their most recent meeting near the end of the regular season, it was the Oil Caps who shutout the Nighthawks, 1-0.
