Oil Capitals sweep Wolverines, advance to second round

The Virden Oil Capitals have advanced to the second round of the 2022 MJHL Playoffs.

Entering the postseason, this series between the 2nd and 3rd ranked teams in the West division was considered to be the closest matchup and despite the sweep, it lived up to expectations. Each game was decided by a one-goal margin including a pair of games that required overtime.

Special teams were almost dead even throughout the series as the Oil Caps’ went 3/16 on the powerplay while the Wolverines went 4/17. Waywayseecappo managed to outshoot Virden in the series 145 to 109 but were unable to find those extra goals against Oil Capitals netminder Bailey Monteith who came up with big save after big save to solidify each victory for his club.

The Oil Capitals were able to receive key saves and timely goals in each game that led to four straight wins and now await to find out who their second round opponent will be after becoming to first team in 2022 to advance to the second round.
