The Virden Oil Capitals are the second team to book their ticket to the second round of the MJHL McMunn & Yates Turnbull Cup Playoffs.
After falling behind 2-1 in their best-of-seven series against the OCN Blizzard, the Oil Capitals picked up a key 4-3 win in double overtime in game four, thanks to a goal off the stick of Ethan Guthrie.
Virden would go on to win a pair of one goal games in games five and six to win three straight and take a 4-2 series win over the OCN Blizzard. This is the second straight year Virden has advanced to the second round.
In game four, the Oil Capitals turned to rookie goaltender, Owen LaRocque who won three straight starts, stopping 97/106 shots in the process. Offensively, Virden has been led by another rookie in Nolan Chastko, who scored 6 goals and 2 assists in the opening round.
The Oil Capitals now await who their second round opponent will be with winners from round one from each division advancing to a non-divisional round two (Semi-Finals) best-of-seven series based on regular season points.
