WINNIPEG, MB – The Virden Oil Capitals beat the Steinbach Pistons 4-3 in game six on Sunday night to win the best-of-seven series 4-2, advancing to the Turnbull Cup Final where they will meet the Niverville Nighthawks.

Liam Goertzen scored twice while Braxton Burdeny made 22 saves to help the Virden Oil Capitals win game six on home ice.
The Oil Capitals opened the scoring in the 1st period when Tyson Draper put home a rebound for his 3rd of the postseason. With 5:45 to play in the 1st, Brett Kaiser’s powerplay marker beat Burdeny to tie the game at 1-1 after one.

In the 2nd, the Oil Capitals took a 2-1 lead when Liam Goertzen scored shorthanded for his first of two on the night. After two periods, the Oil Caps outshot the Pistons, 20-15.

Another shorthanded marker opened the scoring in the 3rd when Jackson Kostiuk tied the game at 2-2 just 3:19 in. Two minutes later, the Oil Capitals took the lead when Nathan Schaefer beat Easton Thvedt on the man-advantage.

With under five to play in the game, Liam Goertzen scored his 2nd of the night that would stand as the game winner. Grady Hoffman scored a late goal for the Pistons with Thvedt on the bench for the extra attacker but that’s as close as they would come with Virden winning the best-of-seven in six games.
