Oil Caps’ cut series lead with key game three victory

Nolan Chastko and Brody Wilson each scored twice while Owen LaRocque turned aside 33/36 shots to help the Virden Oil Capitals to a 6-3 win on home ice in game three on Wednesday night, cutting the Pistons series lead to 2-1.

In the first period, Dawson Millken forced a turnover in the neutral zone and made a nice saucer pass to Ty Paisley who sniped his 10th of the postseason under the blocker of Owen LaRocque to give the Pistons a 1-0 lead.

Fifty one seconds into the second period, Nolan Chastko received a nice pass as he was streaking to the net where he would fire in his 10th of the playoffs to tie the game up at 1-1.

Just prior to the midway mark of the second, Parker Jasper would fire a point shot that found its way to the back of the net to give Steinbach a 2-1 lead.

On the powerplay, Brody Wilson would tip in a Ty Plaisier shot that would knot the game up once again, this time at 2-2. With less than three minutes to play in the period, Wilson would make a nice move in front and tuck in his second of the game past Wasik to give Virden a 3-2 lead heading into the third period.

Virden would continue to step on the gas in the 3rd period as David Bielik would jump on a rebound at the side of the net on the powerplay to give the Oil Caps’ a 4-2 lead.

Near the midway mark of the third period, Leo Chambers jumped on his own rebound at the side of the net and pulled the Pistons to within one.

With under five minutes to play, Brody Wilson made a nice outlet pass that would send Davis Chorney up the left wing where he would beat Wasik with a quick shot to give Virden a 5-3 lead.

Steinbach would pull Wasik for the extra attacker but it was too little too late as Nolan Chastko would score his second of the night to seal a 6-3 win for the Oil Capitals.

Game four is set for Thursday night in Virden at 7:30 inside Tundra Oil & Gas Place.
