Pistons down Oil Caps, cut series deficit to 2-1

WINNIPEG, MB – Grady Hoffman scored twice while Easton Thvedt made 30 saves to help the Steinbach Pistons defeat the Virden Oil Capitals 6-4 in game three of the McMunn & Yates Turnbull Cup Playoffs semifinal.

Connor Paronuzzi opened the scoring in game three for the Pistons just 2:13 into the 1st before Sam Noad’s 4th of the postseason would give Steinbach a 2-0 lead in the opening ten minutes.

Just a minute after Noad scored, Oil Capitals rookie forward, Cohen Lewko, would cut the Pistons lead in half to head into the first intermission with a 2-1 lead in favour of the Pistons.

It was a high-scoring affair in the second period with five goals between these two clubs. After London Hoilett tied the game at 2-2 under two minutes in the period, Ryan McDonald answered back for the Pistons to regain their lead.


Liam Goertzen tied the game back up at 3-3 with just over ten minutes to go in the period, only to have Grady Hoffman score for the Pistons to take back their one-goal lead.


With 2:54 to go in the 2nd, Bryce Bryant’s MJHL leading 9th of the postseason would tie the game up at 4-4 for the Oil Capitals heading to the 3rd.

Cullen Ingebritson would score 3:19 into the 3rd to give the Pistons a 5-4 which Grady Hoffman would add to with an empty-netter to give the Pistons a 6-4 win in game three over the Pistons.


These two clubs meet once again on Wednesday night in Virden for game four
