Steinbach Pistons’ goaltender Matt Thiessen is the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s top ranked North American goaltender heading into this June’s NHL draft, according to the National Hockey League Central Scouting which released its final rankings for the 2018 NHL Draft.
The NHL draft will take place this June in Dallas. A total of 22 players from the Canadian Junior Hockey League were ranked by Central Scouting: 20 skaters and two goaltenders.
Thiessen, who hails from Altona, is currently playing in the Turnbull Trophy final. He currently owns a 7-4 record in the post-season, with a 1.85 GAA and .936 save percentage: both tops among goaltenders in the post-season. Earlier this season it was announced that Thiessen had committed to University of Maine.
Topping the CJHL contingent among North American skaters is Okotoks Oilers (AJHL) defenceman Jacob Bernard-Docker, who was slotted 33rd overall.
He was followed by centre Jack McBain of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens (OJHL) at No. 35.
Others in the Top 100 include a trio of blueliners in Jonathon Tychonick of the Penticton Vees (BCHL), Stanislav Demin of the Wenatchee Wild (BCHL) and Seth Barton of the Trail Smoke Eaters (BCHL) who were ranked 36th, 40th and 94th respectively.
Goaltender Matt Thiessen of the Steinbach Pistons (MJHL) is the top rated CJHL netminder as he jumped seven places from the mid-term rankings moving all the way up to fourth among goaltenders in North America.
