WINNIPEG, MB – Cole Sheffield made 46 saves in game one to help the Dauphin Kings earn a 3-1 road win in Portage to take a 1-0 series lead in the second round of the McMunn & Yates Turnbull Cup Playoffs.

It was the Portage Terriers who would open the scoring in game one when Caleb Lepitre found the back of the net on the powerplay with one second left in the period.

In the early stages of the second it was the Kings who capitalized on a pair of chances. Madden Murray beat Mitchel Kathler on a powerplay marker of his own to tie the game at 1-1. Just two minutes later, Ty Pratte’s second of the playoffs would give the Kings a 2-1 lead in an action packed period that saw Portage outshoot Dauphin, 19-14.

Another timely goal for the Kings would give them a two-goal lead when Gabriel Bugeuad’s third of the playoffs beat Kathler. The Terriers would press the Kings more in the third and pull Kathler for extra attacker but that would be all as Sheffield and the Kings would earn a big road win to take a 1-0 series lead.

The Kings will play host to the Terriers on Sunday night in game two at Credit Union Place in Dauphin with puck drop set for 7:00 pm.
