Special teams the difference in Kings win over Capitals

ESTEVAN, SK – Nick Braun and Parker Malchuk scored twice while Carson Cherepak stopped 35/36 shots to help the Dauphin Kings to a 7-1 victory over the Summerside Western Capitals of the Martime Hockey League (MHL).

The Kings went 5-for-7 on the man advantage on day four of the Centennial Cup at Affinity Place in Estevan to improve their record in Pool B to 2-0.

It was a very close period in the first with Summerside getting some good chances and they led on the shot clock after 20. However, the second was a very different story as the MJHL champions took over.

Parker Malchuk scored back-to-back powerplay goals to end the period, Nick Braun scored back-to-back goals to start the period, Logan Calder added one in the middle and Dauphin took a commanding 5-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Kaden Bryant and Brayden Dube scored in the third period while Will Irvine responded for the Western Capitals.

The Kings go head-to-head with the Flin Flon Bombers on Tuesday afternoon in Estevan at 5:00 PM CST.
