Steinbach Pistons’ Thiessen named Recycle Everywhere MJHL Player of the Week

Steinbach Pistons have advanced to the MJHL final thanks to the outstanding play of goaltender Matthew Thiessen, who was named the Recycle Everywhere MJHL Player of the Week.

Thiessen, 17, won three of four starts, highlighted by an outstanding GAA of 1.75 and save percentage of .939. One of his wins was a shutout effort.

Thiessen, who hails from Altona, currently has the best GAA (1.38) of all goaltenders in the post-season. He also has the most shutouts in the playoffs with three.

Pistons, who won the MJHL in 2013, will take on Virden Oil Capitals for the Turnbull Trophy. The best-of-seven series will begin this week.

The runners up are 19 year old goaltender Jeremy Link of the Winnipeg Blues and 20 year old forward Kirklan Lycar of the Virden Oil Capitals.
