Trent Sambrook commits to Mercyhurst University

Winkler Flyers defenseman, Trent Sambrook has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at Mercyhurst University.

The 5-foot-8, 165-pound defender from Winnipeg, MB, is a three-year veteran of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, spending 112 games in a Flyers uniform. Sambrook enjoyed a breakout season in 2021-22, scoring 9 goals and 49 assists in 49 regular season games. He continued to add to his value in the postseason, scoring 4 goals while adding 10 assists in 11 games.

Sambrook was named to the MJHL All-Rookie Team during the 2019-20 season and would go on to be named a First Team All-Star in 2021-22. He was also named one of three finalists for the Brian Kozak Memorial Award as the MJHL’s Top Defenseman in 2021-22.

The Mercyhurst University Lakers play in the Atlantic Hockey Association Conference out of the Mercyhurst Ice Center in Erie, Pennsylvania.
