Terriers earn key victory in game three on home ice

WINNIPEG, MB – Ryan Velan made 39 saves in game three on Tuesday night to help the Portage Terriers earn a 2-1 win over the Dauphin Kings, cutting the Kings second round series lead to 2-1.

Following a scoreless first period where the Kings outshot the Terriers, 13-6, Adam Belzil opened the scoring and gave Portage a 1-0 lead just before the midway mark of the second.

Breck Hirrschoff added to the Terriers lead with 2:38 left in the period on his second of the postseason. Gavin Nemis made things interesting early in the third when he beat Velan on his fourth to make it a 2-1 game.

Dauphin would push hard in the third period, outshooting the Terriers 16-7. Cole Sheffield would come off for the extra attacker but the Kings just couldn’t find the equalizer.

Holding a 2-1 series lead, Dauphin will host Portage on Friday night inside of Credit Union Place.
