1st – Niverville Nighthawks (+2)
Last week: 2-0
Overall: 27-13-2-1
A strong stretch of play continues. Have all but locked down a playoff spot but still have sights of moving up in the MGEU East. Earning at least a point in 7-straight games. A chance to make a big statement with a tough road trip ahead.
Key Player: Austin Dubinsky – 1-0 record, 28 save shutout
Up Next: Feb. 14th @ Swan, Feb. 15th @ Northern Manitoba, Feb. 16th @ Dauphin
2nd – Portage Terriers (-)
Last week: 1-0
Overall: 32-11-0-1
It’s said a lot but it’s true, a win is a win. Get the two points and move on. Not always going to be at the top of their game but it’s finding ways to win regardless that shows the maturity of the Terriers group. A lot of hockey ahead with big points on the line.
Key Player: Tristan Gravenor – 1 assist, 1 shootout winner
Up Next: Feb. 12th vs WPG Blues, Feb. 14th @ Steinbach, Feb. 15th @ Selkirk, Feb. 17th vs Selkirk, Feb. 19th vs Virden
3rd – Steinbach Pistons (+3)
Last week: 3-0
Overall: 33-10-2-1
Three straight games where extra time was needed and in all three, the Pistons earned the bonus point. Two very solid efforts followed by a game where they just managed to get the job done. Needed every point in a tightly contested MGEU East Division.
Key Player: Jamie Fuchs – 1 goal, 2 shootout winners
Up Next: Feb. 14th vs Portage, Feb. 15th @ WPG Blues, Feb. 17th vs WPG Blues
4th – Dauphin Kings (-)
Last week: 2-2
Overall: 1-1-0-1
Three games in three nights are a grind. Taking three out of six points can be a boost, especially with their performance in the wrap up game on Sunday. Doing it without their leading scorer also speaks volumes to the group’s resolve.
Key Player: Bryson Yaschyshyn – 1-0 record, 34 saves on 35 shots
Up Next: Feb. 12th vs Swan, Feb. 14th vs Neepawa, Feb. 16th vs Niverville, Feb. 18th vs Northern Manitoba
5th – Winkler Flyers (-4)
Last week: 2-1-0-1
Overall: 34-7-3-1
A good reminder of what makes them successful and if they get away from it, they’ll make life more difficult on themselves than needed. Still strong, the depth has been tested with several key bodies missing all or large parts of games recently.
Key Player: Jayce Legaarden – 2 goals, 5 assists in 4 games
Up Next: Feb. 15th vs Waywayseecappo, Feb. 17th @ Virden, Feb. 19th vs WPG Blues
6th – Virden Oil Capitals (+1)
Last week: 2-0-0-1
Overall: 20-23-1-1
Biggest win to this point coming on the road against the team chasing them for the final playoff spot. Holding their own fate in their hands, they need to stay with what’s been working. Grind out wins as a team. Playing playoff-like hockey and finding success.
Key Player: Ty Plaisier – 1 goal, 3 assists in 3 games
Up Next: Feb. 15th @ Neepawa, Feb. 17th vs Winkler, Feb. 19th @ Portage
7th – Neepawa Titans (-2)
Last week: 1-1
Overall: 23-18-2-3
A determined group went out on the road and came away with a massive victory. Had a chance to really put the hammer down the next night against the same team but just fell short. A good trip but it could have been great.
Key Player: Caden Hegarty – 2 goals, 3 assists in 2 games
Up Next: Feb. 14th @ Dauphin, Feb. 15th vs Virden
8th – Northern Manitoba Blizzard (+1)
Last week: 2-1
Overall: 26-17-0-1
Great bounce back at home against the team chasing them. Holding onto the second spot and home ice in round one is critical. Two points up and games in hand give them an advantage. Top spot might be out of reach but plenty to defend down the stretch before playoffs.
Key Player: Miguel Bouvier – 5 goals, 3 assists in 3 games
Up Next: Feb. 14th vs WPG Freeze, Feb. 15th vs Niverville, Feb. 18th @ Dauphin
9th – Swan Valley Stampeders (-1)
Last week: 1-1-0-1
Overall: 12-27-4-2
A tough week but no quit from players setting a tone for the rest of this year and into the next few years. Competitiveness has been installed and as talent continues to develop, the results will come. Can still look to push to get out of the basement in the MGEU West.
Key Player: Riley Fequet – 2 goals in 3 games
Up Next: Feb. 12th @ Dauphin, Feb. 14th vs Niverville, Feb. 15th vs WPG Freeze, Feb. 17th @ Waywayseecappo
10th – Waywayseecappo Wolverines (-)
Last week: 1-1
Overall: 17-26-2-1
Took a big hit losing on home ice to the team they’re trying to hunt down. Still a ways to go but it’s the time of year where they’ll need at least a point every night plus a little luck added in. Have been counted out before and come back but is there magic left, is the question.
Key Player: Ryley Cyca – 1 goal, 2 assists in 2 games
Up Next: Feb. 14th @ WPG Blues, Feb. 15th @ Winkler, Feb. 17th vs Swan Valley
11th – Winnipeg Blues (+2)
Last week: 1-1
Overall: 9-28-2-2
Big win against their in-city rival. Have a chance to come together and play the role of spoiler down the stretch. Can be an irritating team to play against when they use their speed. Looking to build momentum down the stretch as a group to take into next year.
Key Player: Evan Gradt – 2 goals in 2 games
UP Next: Feb. 12th @ Portage, Feb. 14th vs Waywayseecappo, Feb. 15th vs Steinbach, Feb. 17th @ Steinbach, Feb. 19th @ Winkler
12th – Selkirk Steelers (-)
Last week: 0-1-1
Overall: 21-20-3-1
After starting the season 10-0, they’ve won just 11 games since. Fading back in the playoff push, the effort, skill and compete are still there. Regardless of what happens the rest of the way, the Steelers have a good core coming back bigger, faster and angrier.
Key Player: Landon Jamieson – 1 goal, 1 assist in 2 games
Up Next: Feb.15th vs Portage, Feb. 17th @ Portage
13th – Winnipeg Freeze (-2)
Last week: 0-4
Overall: 6-36-1-2
Put a scare into the top team in the MGEU East Division but just fell short. That has been the theme of the year for the Freeze who have always battled despite being under manned. Can still play spoiler or at least take a bite out of other teams so they know they were in a fight for two points.
Key Player: Carter Kingerski – 3 goals, 2 assists in 4 games
Up Next: Feb. 14th @ Northern Manitoba, Feb. 15th @ Swan Valley
