Wolverines, Oil Capitals & Pistons win on Tuesday

WINNIPEG, MB – The Waywayseecappo Wolverines and Virden Oil Capitals each took a 3-0 series lead on Tuesday night while the Steinbach Pistons win gave them their first series lead on night five of the McMunn & Yates Turnbull Cup Playoffs.

Sebastien Hicks scored 1:35 into double overtime while Jase Wareham made 36 saves to help the Wolverines win game four in Dauphin, 3-2.

After Madden Murray opened the scoring for the Kings in the 1st period, Dylan Duzan and Sebastien Hicks would score in the 2nd to give Waywayseecappo a 2-1 lead heading to the 3rd.

With 6 minutes left to play in the final period of regulation, Ethan Stewart would tie the game at 2-2 to help send the game to overtime. After a scoreless opening period in overtime, Sebastien Hicks wasted no time in double OT, banking in a shot off the Kings goaltender from behind the goal line to score the winner.


The Wolverines and Kings return to action on Thursday night in Waywayseecappo when the Wolverines will have a chance to win their first playoff series in franchise history.

Oil Capitals 6 Titans 3 | Oil Capitals lead best-of-seven series 3-0
Marshall Light’s hat-trick performance helped the Virden Oil Capitals double up the Neepawa Titans 6-3 on Tuesday night, giving Virden a commanding 3-0 series lead.

It was a hectic 1st period in Virden with the Oil Capitals taking a 3-2 lead while outshooting Neepawa 20-6 in the opening twenty minutes.

Following a scoreless 2nd period, London Hoilett and Marshall Light would find the back of the net in the opening ten minutes of the 3rd. Neepawa would cut the lead to a pair but that’s as close as they would get with Light netting his hat-trick goal in the closing minute of the game to give Virden a 6-3 win and a 3-0 series lead.


Virden went 0-for-5 with the man-advantage while the Titans would go 1-for-3. These two clubs will get back at in on Thursday night in Neepawa with puck drop set for 7:30 at the Yellowhead Centre.

Pistons 6 Terriers 2 | Pistons lead best-of-seven series 2-1
Jackson Kostiuk scored twice for a second straight game while Chris Quizi made 27 saves in game three to help the Pistons down the Terriers 6-2 in game three, taking a 2-1 series lead.

For a third straight game it was the Terriers who would open the scoring when Ben Bugeaud struck 6:48 into the 1st. Jackson Kostiuk would tie the game at 1-1 before Sam Noad’s shorthanded marker would gain Steinbach a 2-1 lead after one.

Connor Paronuzzi increased the lead to 3-1 early in the 2nd before Breck Hirrschoff’s first of the playoffs would cut the deficit to one for the Terriers.


Steinbach would go on to score three unanswered goals to close the door on Portage in game three, giving the Pistons their first lead of the series. Game four between the Pistons and Terriers is set for Friday night at Stride Price in Portage la Prairie.
