Selkirk Steelers captain, Jacob Ziegler, was recognized on Friday night as the Steelers RBC Community Ambassador.
Ziegler has displayed outstanding citizenship and sportsmanship both on and off the ice and a commitment to volunteerism. RBC Community Ambassadors are recognized for making a difference and giving back to their communities where they play.
“It is an honour and most definitely exciting to be named the Steelers community ambassador,” shared Ziegler. “It’s important to be involved in the community to help build a connection with the people of Selkirk. Hockey is about making relationships that go further than just the game of hockey.”
Like Ziegler, each Ambassador is recognized at their RBC Game Night and will be honoured by a donation from RBC to a school in their local community. Ziegler will be making his donation to Ruth Hooker School in Selkirk.
“It’s a school that over the last couple of years the Steelers have done a learn to skate program with. I have also built a connection with both the students and staff at Ruth Hooker because of it,” Ziegler finished.
At the conclusion of the regular season, one RBC – MJHL Community Ambassador will be named as the recipient of the RBC Community Award, which comes with a further donation from RBC in the player’s name to a school in their local community.
