Husky Energy Rookie of the Month for January 2011 is 17 year old forward Russell Trudeau of the Steinbach Pistons. The runners up are 18 year old forward Bryn Chyzyk of the Dauphin Kings and 17 year old forward Shane Gingera of the Winnipeg Saints.

 

Sherwood Hockey Defenseman of the Month is 19 year old Brenden Kotyk of the Dauphin Kings. The runners up are 20 year old Dale Warkentin of the OCN Blizzard and 18 year old Kyle Rous of the Steinbach Pistons.

 

MJHL Goaltender of the Month is 20 year old Brett Willows of the Dauphin Kings. The runners up are 20 year old Ryan Benitez of the Waywayseecappo Wolverines and 19 year old Matt Krahn of the OCN Blizzard.

 

 

December 2010

Veteran Dauphin King forward Shane Luke has been named the RBC Player of the Month.

 

Luke, 20, was a key offensive contributor for the Kings, as he collected a total of 14 points (5-9) in six games in December. The defending MJHL points champion has 19 goals and 57 points after 37 games and currently sits tied atop the scoring race with Selkirk Steeler forward Colan Jackson.

Runners-up for the RBC Player of the Month honour were Jon Gaudet, 18, of the Winnipeg Saints and Richard Olson, 18, of the Neepawa Natives.


Sher-Wood Hockey Defenceman of the Month


Winnipeg Saints’ veteran defenceman Jordan Davies has been awarded December’s Defenceman of the Month honour. The 20-year-old blueliner not only played outstanding defence in his zone, but also contributed in the scoring department with 10 points (3-7) in seven games for the Saints, who currently sit second in the Addison Division with 23 wins and 47 points after 41 games.

Davies held a hot stick on the powerplay, reflected in four points (1-3) while the Saints enjoyed the man advantage.

Runners-up for the award were Brennan Ritchie, 18, of the Steinbach Pistons and Colin Fay, 19, of OCN Blizzard.


MJHL Goaltender of the Month


Veteran netminder Matt Krahn continues to be outstanding in the OCN Blizzard net. The Winnipeg native enjoyed an outstanding December, reflected in his 5-3 record and 1.98 GAA. The 20-year-old gave up only 16 goals on 247 shots on goal last month.

Krahn’s overall record this season is 12-8-1 for the Blizzard who sit third in the Sher-Wood Division with 22 wins and 47 points after 39 games played.

Runners-up for the MJHL Goaltender of the Month award were Peter Alexander, 20 of Winkler Flyers and Jason Kasdorf, 18, of Portage Terriers.


Husky Energy Rookie of the Month


Despite being a rookie, Jon Gaudet has adjusted nicely in the MJHL. The first-year forward came to the Saints via Winnipeg’s Vincent Massey High School. Last month the 6-foot, 180-pound Gaudet registered 14 points (5-9) in nine games.

Runners-up for Rookie of the Month were Bryn Chyzyk, 18 of the Dauphin Kings and Brent Wold, 17, of the Portage Terriers.

January 2010


RBC Financial Player of the Month

Considered one of the young guns in the MJHL, Winnipeg South Blues’ forward Brendan O’Donnell has been rewarded for his outstanding offensive efforts by being named January’s RBC Player of the Month.

And to cap an outstanding month of hockey for the Winnipeg product, O’Donnell was also named the MJHL’s Husky Energy Rookie of the Month. The 17-year-old centre put together an impressive 20 points (10-10) over an 11-game span last month.

O’Donnell also leads all rookie scorers in the MJHL with 25 goals and 50 points. This has been a season to remember for O’Donnell, who recently represented Team West at the prestigious Prospects Game, in addition to suiting up for Team West at the World Junior A Challenge.

Runners-up for the RBC Player of the Month Award were forward Niko Grose, 20, of the Waywayseecappo Wolverines and forward Wes Pawluk, 20, of the Neepawa Natives.

Sher-wood Hockey Defenceman of the Month
Despite sitting last in the Sher-Wood Division, Waywayseecappo Wolverines have demonstrated their never-say-die attitude, reflected in back-to-back wins against Selkirk Steelers and a 4-1 victory over division leaders Dauphin Kings. Wayway defenceman Stephane Robidoux was one of the pillars for Wolverines during their victories.

Not only did he display solid play along the blueline, but the native of Haywood, Mb., contributed offensively with 15 points (2-13) over 13 games last month.

Runners up for the award were Peter Stoykewych, 17, of the Winnipeg South Blues and Dale Warkentin, 19, of the OCN Blizzard.

GDI Prairies Goaltender of the Month
Winnipeg Saints’ management made it a priority at the trade deadline to acquire a seasoned, successful goaltender - enter Justin Leclerc, whose outstanding play last month has earned him goaltender of the month honours.

Prior to joining the Saints, Leclerc has guarded the nets for the Kamloops Blazers and Lethbridge Hurricanes for the past five years, compiling 82 wins and a 3.48 goals against average. During his three years in Kamloops he was the number one netminder, playing more 7,400 minutes.  

Prior to the 2007-08 season, he was dealt from Lethbridge to Kamloops for a second round draft pick. Saints acquired the veteran netminder from Melville Millionaires.

In January Leclerc posted a 6-1 record, enroute to a 2.25 GAA and .931 save per centage. He also recorded a 4-0 shutout over the MJHL league leading Dauphin Kings.

Runners up for goalie of the month were Jason Kasdorf, 17, of the Portage Terriers and Matt Krahn, 18, of the Neepawa Natives.

RBC Financial Player of the Month

Considered one of the most consistent players in the MJHL, Selkirk Steelers’ veteran forward Josh Schappert has been rewarded for his efforts by being named December’s RBC Player of the Month.

Schappert’s steady play is one of the reasons why the Steelers are riding a four-game winning steak, helping the club stay within points of first place in the tight Addison Division. The 20-year-old Winnipeg native has also put together an impressive 12-game point streak, registering 10 goals and 26 points over that span.

Over a 10-game span in December, Schappert recorded 22 points (8-14).

Runners-up for the RBC Player of the Month Award were Schappert’s teammate Colan Jackson, 19, and Blake Chartier, 20 of the Winnipeg Saints.

Sher-wood Hockey Defenceman of the Month
One of the biggest trades last season involved Lucas Alexiuk, who moved from Winkler Flyers to Selkirk Steelers. And the play of the steady defenceman continues to pay off this season.

Alexiuk’s strong play in December has been recognized by him being named the Sher-Wood Defenceman of the Month. In 10 games last month, the Winnipeg product produced offensively with 12 points (4-8).

Runners up for the award were Troy Kliever, 19, of the Winkler Flyers and Steven Shamanski, 20 of the Dauphin Kings.

GDI Prairies Goaltender of the Month
One only has to look at the play of goaltender Matt Krahn to understand why Neepawa Natives are in contention for a playoff spot in the MJHL. Last month the 6-foot-1, 180-pounder recorded a 5-4 record and 2.77 GAA in 607 minutes played. His save percentage was a very respectable .908.

Natives, who sit fifth in the Sher-Wood Division, have 41 points and are presently tied with Winnipeg South Blues, who are fourth in the Addison Division. A playoff crossover could take place if the Natives finish with more points than the fourth-place finisher in the Addison.

Runners up for goalie of the month were Jordan Washburn, 19, of the Portage Terriers and Joe Caligiuri, 20, of the Dauphin Kings.

Husky Energy Rookie of the Month
December was a busy month for Winnipeg South Blues’ rookie Brendan O'Donnell. In addition to being named the Potters Distillers Player of the Week, O’Donnell also suited up for Team West at Prospects Games staged in Winkler.

The Winnipeg product also showcased his talents on the national stage, playing for Team West at World Junior A Challenge, where he came home with a silver medal.

O’Donnell, who has committed to University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux, enjoyed a strong December in the MJHL, reflected in 12 points (5-7) in nine games.

Runners up were Craig Scott, 18, of the Selkirk Steelers and forward David Conrad, 18, of the Winnipeg Saints.

RBC Financial Player of the Month
Dauphin Kings continue to lead all MJHL teams in wins, and that success was reflected in the MJHL’s Player of the Month selections. A pair of Kings were recipients of two awards: Ryan Dreger was named RBC Player of the Month, while teammate Brett Willows was named GDI Prairies Goaltender of the Month.

Dreger, who hails from Dauphin, was red hot on the ice reflected in 15 goals and 26 points in 13 games played in November.

Runners-up for the RBC Player of the Month Award were Myles Stevens, 20, of Swan Valley Stampeders and Taylor Dickin, 20, of Selkirk Steelers.

GDI Prairies Goaltender of the Month
Willows, 19, backstopped the Kings to five victories last month enroute to an overall 5-1 record for November. The native of Rivers posted a 2.33 GAA and .916 save per centage for the division leading Kings.

Runners-ups were Christian Peloquin of the Winnipeg Saints and David Aime of the OCN Blizzard.

Sher-wood Hockey Defenseman of the Month
Slick skating Brent Wilson was a one-man wrecking crew on the Stampeders’ powerplay last month, reflected in three goals and six assists tallied while holding the man advantage. The 19-year-old from Norway House scored a total of 14 points (4-10) last month for the Stamps who sit second in the Sher-Wood Division.

Runners up were Steven Shamanski of the Dauphin Kings and Dale Warkentin of the OCN Blizzard.

Husky Energy Rookie of the Month
Tyler Swerdyliak of the Neepawa Natives enjoyed an outstanding November. The 17-year-old from Grande Pointe scored eight goals and 11 points in 10 games.

The runners up were goaltender Caden Unger, 18, of the Swan Valley Stampeders and forward Zach Franko, 17, of the Winnipeg South Blues.

RBC Financial Player of the Month
If Shane Luke’s nickname isn’t ‘Cool Hand’ it should be. With all due respect to the original ‘Cool Hand’ Luke, Paul Newman, the veteran Dauphin King forward was red hot last month, earning him the MJHL’s RBC Player of the Month honours.

Luke, who hails from Saint Rose du Lac, clipped along on a two-point a game pace during the month of October. In 12 games the flashy forward wracked up 24 points (12-12). Coming into this week’s action Luke tops all point getters with 16 goals and 41 points after 22 games. He’s trailed by teammates Bryce Lamb and Ryan Dreger who have 36 points apiece.

In 22 games this season, Kings have only two losses in regulation time, registering 19 wins, sitting first in the Sher-Wood Division.

Runners-up for the RBC Player of the Month award were Blake Chartier (Winnipeg Saints) and Taylor Dickin (Selkirk Steelers).

Sher-Wood Defenceman Award
Paul Bodnar of Swan River Stampeders not only played solid defensively along the blueline, but he also contributed offensively with 12 points (1-11) in 13 games.

Runners-up were Troy Kliever of Winkler Flyers and Dale Warkentin of OCN Blizzard.

GDI Prairies Goaltender Award
Winnipeg Saints’ puckstopper Kent Henry enjoyed a memorable October. Of the Saints’ six wins last month, Henry was in net for six of those victories. The native of Eddystone played last season with Beausejour Blades, who have since relocated in Steinbach.

Runners-up were Joe Caligiuri of Dauphin Kings and Jason Kasdorf of Portage Terriers.

Husky Energy Rookie Award
Steinbach Piston forward Eric Coulombe continues to show he belongs in the MJHL. The product of Saint Pierre was a one-man scoring machine last month, reflected in 15 points (6-9) in 13 games for the Pistons. Coulombe also leads all MJHL rookie scorers.

Runners-up were Cole Brunet of Portage and Connor Cleverley of Winnipeg South Blues.

RBC Financial Player of the Month
Thanks to a sizzling September, Ryan Marshall of the Swan Valley Stampeders has been named RBC Player of the Month in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, Commissioner Kim Davis announced today.

Marshall, 18, is leading the MJHL scoring race with 10 goals and 19 points in nine games played. He is also one key reason why the Stampeders sit second in the Sher-Wood Division with a 6-3 record for September.

“There’s really a new, positive attitude in our dressing room these days,” Marshall says of the Stampeders, who missed the playoffs last year. “We’ve got a new coach, some new players…there’s a new, positive attitude.”

Runners up for the RBC Player of the Month were 20 year old forward Ryan Dreger of the Dauphin Kings and 20 year old forward Zeanan Ziemer of the OCN Blizzard.

Sher-wood Hockey Defenseman of the Month
Considered a cornerstone of the Dauphin Kings’ blueline, Steven Shamanski is the recipient of September’s  Sher-wood Hockey Defenseman of the Month. The 20-year-old blueliner is not only consistent in his defensive play, but he also knows where the net is, leading all D-men in scoring with 14 points (2-12).

Runners up are 17 year old Peter Stoykewych of the Winnipeg South Blues and 19 year old Brent Wilson of the Swan Valley Stampeders.

GDI Prairies Goaltender of the Month
After 433 minutes played, David Aime of OCN Blizzard owns an impressive 1.94 goals against average and .937 save percentage. The 20-year-old native of Clandeboye, Mb., owns a 4-3 record with the Blizzard.

Runners-up were 18 year old Joey Rewucki of the Selkirk Steelers and 19 year old Christian Peloquin of the Winnipeg Saints.

Husky Energy Rookie of the Month
After six games the Winnipeg South Blues own an impressive 4-2 record. Much of the success can be attributed to the outstanding play of freshman Zach Franko, who has six goals and seven points in seven games played. Just 16, Franko has made a quick adjustment from midget AAA to junior A.

Runners-ups are 18 year old forward Hamilton Steen of the Winnipeg Saints and 18 year old forward Seth Ronsberg of the Winkler Flyers.
