Winkler Flyers alumnus, Drake Burgin, signed his first professional contract with the Kansas City Mavericks in the ECHL.
Burgin skated in three straight games for the Mavericks over the weekend, earning his first professional point on an assist in a 3-2 win. He scored his first professional goal in a 5-3 victory in the final of 3 meetings against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits.
Burgin spent the last four seasons (2021-25) on the blue line for the St. Lawrence University Skating Saints (NCAA D1) where he was named team captain in his senior season. Over 127 games, Burgin scored 13 goals and 23 assists.
The Winnipeg native played 114 games for the Flyers over two seasons (2018-20), earning the MJHL’s Top Defenseman Award and First Team All-Star Honours for his performance during the 2019-20 season.
