Former Flyer Trent Sambrook named to AHA All-Rookie Team

Former Winkler Flyers defenseman, Trent Sambrook, was named to the Atlantic Hockey Association’s (AHA) All-Rookie Team for his outstanding performance during his freshman season at Mercyhurst (NCAA D1).

The four-year member of the Winkler Flyers enjoyed a decorated career on the backend in Winkler, playing 168 regular season games where he posted 27 goals and 107 assists. Sambrook was named to the MJHL’s All-Rookie Team, was voted twice as an MJHL First Team All-Star and was named the MJHL’s Top Defenseman in 2022-23.

“I wasn’t completely certain on what to expect from adjusting to college hockey but with help from my family, they helped me settle in nicely,” Sambrook shared regarding his freshman year. “Getting into a routine was huge for allowing me to adapt to the college environment. I can’t thank my parents, and my entire family enough for how much they have helped me.”

“The Winkler Flyers and the MJHL helped prepare me for the next level by creating a competitive environment throughout junior hockey. The daily process and culture in Winkler made it a smoother transition to college hockey and I have to thank my teammates, staff, billets and fans on making it a special place to play.”

During his freshman season with Mercyhurst, Sambrook scored 3 goals and added 10 assists in 28 games. Congratulations to Trent on an outstanding season.
