WINNIPEG, MB – The Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) is pleased to announce a new partnership with Wrap Daddy Hockey Tape.
Founded by current Northern Manitoba Blizzard forward, Liam Carlone, Wrap Daddy is the world’s first high-performance hockey tape using the DURATHIN-X™ Technology. The tapes focused on maximizing puck feel and control, featuring a finer, tighter material weave that helps reduce moisture absorption and keep a more consistent feel throughout use.
Through the partnership, Wrap Daddy becomes the official tape supplier of MJHL events and will offer teams and players preferred pricing throughout the season. Fans will come to recognize the Wrap Daddy logo as they move into the presenting sponsorship of the weekly MJHL Pundits Pick’Em segment.
At the pace and intensity the MJHL plays at, every inch matters and puck feel gives you that edge, and that edge is what separates. Snow buildup late in games is exactly where guys start to lose that consistent feel and that’s the gap Wrap Daddy built to close.
DuraThin X™ Technology is Wrapdaddy’s proprietary microweave fabric, engineered with seamless stitching between each knit for a smoother, more consistent puck feel. That same seamless construction also closes off the gaps that would otherwise let water seep underneath the tape and freeze — the main cause of snow buildup.
“We’re proud to see players like Liam thrive on and off the ice and thought it was a no-brainer to have to have Wrap Daddy Hockey Tape join the MJHL,” shared MJHL Director of Marketing & Partnerships, Erik Swar. “Hockey tape is an essential part of the game; from taping sticks before a game to making those final adjustments to your sock-tape, it’s a daily routine for players at every level of hockey.”
Liam Carlone’s story is just beginning
“I’ve always had ideas about creating a product in the hockey industry that would solve problems I faced myself. Moving to Manitoba, right out of high school, gave me the time and space to really sit with those ideas — to think about inventing and reinventing.
Where I was, we only had access to one brand of tape, and the nearest store carried that same brand. Every tape I could get my hands on felt thick and heavy, soaked up water, and left me with muffled, dulled-down puck feel. And as the rinks got colder heading into winter, snow buildup on my stick got worse and worse. I’d had enough. I wanted to build something by a player, for players, that actually performed at the level we compete at.
I’ve always had a knack for chasing my dreams and being a go-getter, and a lot of that comes from wanting to give back to my mom for everything she sacrificed for me. She raised me on her own while battling cancer, and she never let it stop her from showing up for me. Over the past two years developing this, that’s what I kept coming back to.
After months of turning the idea over in my head, I finally brought it to one of my closest friends, Justin, and we built a plan together. Over the next two years, we worked with engineers from all sorts of different industries, developed samples, refined the product, and built out our launch plan — until we finally had exactly what we set out to make. We launched it about a year ago. Part of what drives me through all of it is wanting to be an example for young kids — showing them that hockey doesn’t have to be the only outlet for their ambition, and that they can chase something bigger outside the game too.
Since then, building our social media presence has connected us with players and top organizations around the world — NHL teams, NCAA D1 programs, and top first-round major junior prospects — and they’ve been making the switch. Changing this game, day by day, has always been my dream. It’s also given me the platform to start working toward giving back to cancer research, something I’ve wanted to do since I was a kid watching my mom fight.
Playing in the MJHL for the last two years, I truly believe I wouldn’t be where I am today without this league. From the support of my billets to the friends who became family in the locker room, this league backed me and this idea from the start. I’m incredibly grateful, and genuinely excited to partner with the MJHL — I consider this league my forever home.”
