MJHL Job Posting | Blues Assistant Coach

The Winnipeg Blues Junior A Hockey Club, proud members of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL), is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and growth-minded Assistant Coach for the 2026–27 season.

This position is ideally structured as a significant development opportunity for an aspiring coach looking to advance their career to the junior ranks. Working directly alongside the Head Coach and Hockey Operations staff, the successful candidate will gain hands-on, elite-level experience in tactical game management, advanced video analysis, player recruitment, and the daily operations of a modern Junior A franchise.

Key Responsibilities & Learning Outcomes:

  • Tactical & Strategic Planning: Support the Head Coach in designing and running daily high-performance practices and executing strategic game-day coaching.
  • Modern Video & Analytics: Take a lead role in team video review, pre-scouting opponents, and individual player clip breakdowns, gaining mastery over modern hockey analysis tools.
  • Player Recruitment & Advancement: Assist in player evaluations, scouting, and building relationships with prospects to foster a winning team culture.
  • Mentorship: Work directly with elite student-athletes, helping them develop the habits required to advance to the NCAA, USPORTS, or professional ranks.

Season Details:

  • Timeline: The season runs from September 1st through March 25th, followed by playoffs.
  • Commitment: High-level commitment with daily (late afternoon) practices, training sessions, and a 50+ game regular season schedule.
  • Travel: Must be available to travel with the team for away games throughout the province.

Qualifications & Desired Attributes:

  • Significant hockey coaching and/or high-level playing experience (Junior, Collegiate, or Professional preferred).
  • A strong desire to learn, adapt, and grow within a collaborative coaching staff.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Hockey Canada / Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) qualifications (e.g., Development 1 or High Performance 1). The Blues organization is committed to supporting the right candidate in pursuing these certifications.
  • Ability to complete Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders and required Hockey Canada screening.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Compensation: This position will be paid via a monthly honourarium. This role is highly suited for local Winnipeg candidates looking to accelerate their coaching credentials and build a powerful network in elite hockey operations.
