MJHL Players of the Month | January 2024

RBC PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Dalton Andrew (’03) Winkler Flyers

What a month for the veteran from Brandon who scored at a two point-per-game pace to start the new year. Andrew put together seven multi-game performances including two, 4-point games, two 3-point games and three 2-point games. The Flyers went 10-1 in January and sit three points back of first place in the MGEU East with one game in hand on Steinbach. Andrew sits near the top of the league in scoring with 24 goals and 27 assists in 37 games along with a league-best 1.38 points-per-game average.

SAFE WORK MANITOBA DEFENSEMAN OF THE MONTH
Trevor Hunt (’03) Virden Oil Capitals

In his fourth and final season in the MJHL, Trevor Hunt has been a consistent contributor all season long and reached game 150 in his regular season career. Hunt scored at a point-per-game pace in January, helping the Oil Caps’ to an 8-2 record and a first place hold in the MGEU West Division. In January, Hunt recorded three, 2-point outings and sits 12th in league scoring with 9 goals and 17 assists in 40 games.

ORIGINAL 16 GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH
Cole Sheffield (’04) Dauphin Kings

Earning three shutouts in eight starts during the month of January, Cole Sheffield was on fire in stopping 231/244 shots sent his way. Sheffield was a key factor in helping the Kings to a 8-1 record in the month which included wins over both division leaders in Virden and Steinbach. The 2004-born puck stopper sits 3rd in wins (20), 6th in goals against average (2.34), 7th in save percentage (.916), and 3rd in minutes played (1746).

CHEVROLET ROOKIE OF THE MONTH
Grady Hoffman (’05) Steinbach Pistons

The rookie sniper for the Pistons enjoyed another solid month, hitting the 23-goal mark on the season in the process. Grady Hoffman put together back-to-back, 3-point performances (2G-1A) in wins over Niverville and Neepawa where he scored the game winner. Hoffman leads all rookies in scoring with 23 goals and 16 assists and is 3rd overall in the league in goals scored. The Pistons also earned their second 11-game win streak of the season over the month of January.

MANITOBA PORK PEAK PERFOMER
Malachi Klassen (’03) Winkler Flyers

The consistent strong play of Malachi Klassen was highlighted again through the month of January, earning an 8-1 record while posting a pair of shutouts. The Holy Cross D1 commit turned aside 205/219 shots and has helped the Flyers give up a league second best, 92 goals against so far this season. Klassen ended off the month making 35 saves in a big MGEU East divisional win over their rival Pistons. The veteran goaltender will have a big impact on the race to the top of the division.
