MJHL Players of the Month | November 2023

November 2023   |  The Manitoba Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce the monthly players awards supported by RBC, SAFE Work Manitoba, Original 16, Chevrolet and Manitoba Pork:

RBC PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Cody Gudnason (’03) Neepawa Titans

Gudnason comes off an impressive stretch for the Titans who put together a 6-4-0-0 record in the month of November. The four-year veteran in Neepawa had five multi-point outings, including a four-point game where he scored 1 goal and 3 assists in a 5-3 win over the Nighthawks. Heading into December, Gudnason now sits in the top 15 of league scoring (8G-16A-24PTS) and has helped the Titans reach the .500 mark, sitting 4th in the MGEU West Division.

SAFE WORK MANITOBA DEFENSEMAN OF THE MONTH
Noah Szabo (’04) Steinbach Pistons

Szabo enters the month of December sitting third in scoring amongst defensemen in the MJHL (6G-15A-21PTS) after a strong performance in November. The second-year defender has helped guide the Pistons to eight straight wins in November, and points in 15 of their last 16 games to sit 1st in the MJHL. Szabo recorded three multi-point games and was held off the scoresheet in just two of eight contests in the month.

ORIGINAL 16 GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH
Malachi Klassen (’03) Winkler Flyers

The Holy Cross (NCAA D1) committed goaltender continued to build off of a strong start to the year and carried that momentum into the month of November for the Flyers. Going 5-1 in the month, Klassen turned aside 115/125 shots against in 6 games while earning one shutout in a key win over their division rival Nighthawks. Klassen sits 2nd in goals against average (1.74), 7th in save percentage (0.918), and 4th in wins (9). Klassen and the Flyers have allowed the least amount of goals (35) in the MJHL heading into December and sit 2nd overall in the league.

CHEVROLET ROOKIE OF THE MONTH
Nick Giasson (’06) Selkirk Steelers
10GP | 5G | 4A | 9PTS

The 17-year-old forward from Winnipeg put together a strong performance during an up and down month of November for the Steelers. Giasson helped the Steelers to four straight wins, scoring a single goal in each game during that stretch. Giasson sits in the top ten of rookie scoring (7G-7G-14PTS) and sits second in scoring amongst all 17-year-olds in the MJHL.

MANITOBA PORK PEAK PERFOMER
Kirk Mullen (’03)
8GP | 6G |8A | 14PTS

In November, Mullen recorded five multi-point games and earned a point in all eight games in the month of November. The second-year Pistons forward currently sits second in MJHL scoring heading into the month of December with 12 goals and 17 assists in 19 games to lead the league in points-per-game percentage (1.53).
