How the MJHL Power Rankings work
The MJHL Power Rankings are designed to provide a data-driven snapshot of how all 13 teams are performing throughout the regular season. Each team’s ranking is calculated using a 100-point formula that considers both overall performance and recent results.
The formula includes Points Percentage (25%), Goal Differential per Game (10%), Goals For per Game (5%), Goals Against per Game (5%), Last 10 Games (15%), Last 5 Games (10%), Strength of Schedule (10%), Quality Wins (5%), Special Teams (5%), Home/Road Performance (5%) and Previous Ranking (5%).
The rankings are updated weekly throughout the regular season. Because the sample size is limited early in the season, recent-form categories are adjusted to prevent a small number of games from having an outsized impact. As the season progresses, the formula increasingly reflects a team’s full-season body of work.
The Power Rankings are not a prediction of the final standings. They are intended to provide an objective, consistent and transparent measurement of team performance based on results and statistical performance throughout the season. Rankings represent performance from the previous Tuesday through Tuesday.
