1 – Niverville Nighthawks (+1)
This week: 2-0
Overall: 29-2-1-0
Right back where they have been throughout the year. Bolstering an already deep lineup by bringing in a forward with a proven playoff and championship record will only do more good. Overall, the group shows no signs of slowing down.
Player Spotlight: Loik Leduc – 2 goals, 2 assists in 2 games
Up Next: Jan. 7th @ Neepawa, Jan. 9th vs Swan Valley, Jan. 13th @ WPG Monarchs
2 – Portage Terriers (-1)
This week: 0-0
Overall: 23-7-1-2
The only team that has not played a game so far, the Terriers have had a chance to rest, regroup, and get ready to forge ahead. A pair of big games against top West opponents will get the group kick started quickly, as they look to make a push.
Player Spotlight: Rhett Platt – 18 goals, 27 assists in 30 games (Season)
Up Next: Jan. 7th vs Dauphin, Jan. 11th @ Virden
3 – Steinbach Pistons (-)
This week: 1-1
Overall: 25-7-1
Knocked the rust off after the break with a big win, and even in a loss, battled hard, pushing the MJHL’s top team to the limit. Still room to improve, which might be scary for the rest of the league to hear. A healthy crease would also help.
Player Spotlight: Rory Gilmour – 2 goals, 3 assists in 2 games
Up Next: Jan. 7th @ WPG Blues, Jan. 9th @ Dauphin
4- Neepawa Titans (-)
This week: 1-0
Overall: 18-13-0-1
Continuing to be very impressive in all areas, the Titans’ push to that next tier is getting a lot of focus. No matter where they finish in the division, they may be the team that others least want to match up with in the opening round.
Player Spotlight: DJ Meloney – 3 assists in 1 game
Up Next: Jan. 7th vs Niverville, Jan. 9th vs Winkler, Jan. 11 @ WPG Blues, Jan. 14th vs Swan Valley
5- Virden Oil Capitals (+2)
This week: 2-0
Overall: 18-10-1
Flexing their scoring muscles right out of the break. Putting themselves in a position to make a charge for the top spot in the division. Have the best goal differential in the West, and they’ve given up the fewest goals so far. Good combination.
Player Spotlight: Dysen Drake – 6 assists in 2 games
Up Next: Jan. 8th vs Waywayseecappo, Jan. 11th vs Portage, Jan. 13th vs Dauphin
6 – Winkler Flyers (+2)
This week: 3-0
Overall: 18-13-1-2
Putting together a nice winning streak has given the Flyers some space in the chase for a playoff spot. Finding ways to score, defending better and getting timely saves, the group is in a much better position, but that can change if they take their foot off the gas.
Player Spotlight: Aiden Jacobson – 4 goals, 1 assist in 3 games
Up Next: Jan. 9th @ Neepawa, Jan. 13th vs Selkirk
7 – Dauphin Kings (-2)
This week: 1-1
Overall: 20-11-1
Really big response from a team that never quits. Feeling a bit of pressure at the top of MGEU West, but it’s still well within their own control. They’ll look to really dial in with some tough tests coming up will push them to be at their best.
Player Spotlight: Joey Kubas – 2 goals, 2 assists in 2 games
Up Next: Jan. 7th @ Portage, Jan. 9th vs Steinbach, Jan. 13th @ Virden
8 – Waywayseecappo Wolverines (-2)
This week: 0-1
Overall: 12-19-1-1
The up and down run for Waywayseecappo continues. Never getting too low when things don’t go their way, the group will need to find a way to get hot and stay hot, giving them some breathing room for that final playoff spot.
Player Spotlight: Sebastian Hicks – 1 goal in 1 game
Up Next: Jan. 8th @ Virden, Jan. 9th vs Northern Manitoba, Jan. 13th vs WPG Blues
9- Swan Valley Stampeders (+4)
This week: 1-1
Overall: 6-19-3-1
Have put themselves in a bit of a hole, but as the calendar turns, the Stamps could be that team that finally puts it together and goes on a run. A lot has to go right, but there are the pieces in place do be able to pull something special out of a hat.
Player Spotlight: Dayson Martin – 2 goals, 1 assist in 2 games
Up Next: Jan. 9th @ Niverville, Jan. 10th @ Selkirk, Jan. 14th @ Neepawa
10- Winnipeg Monarchs (-1)
This week: 0-2
Overall: 7-27
Scrappy and hardworking have been ways to describe the team throughout the year, and that will have to continue. Goals have been hard to come by, and the shots against pile up. Being a pest could help bond the group over the next few weeks.
Player Spotlight: Wyatt Kelman – 1 goal in 2 games
Up Next: Jan. 9th @ WPG Blues, Jan. 13th vs Niverville
11 – Winnipeg Blues (-1)
This week: 0-2
Overall: 9-17-3
Showing signs and flashes, but still can’t find a way to do it for a full 60-minutes. A strong, physical group has a good mindset, and they’ll need some guys throughout the lineup to take a step if they want to do damage nightly.
Player Spotlight: Campbell Epp – 2 goals, 1 assist in 2 games
Up Next: Jan. 7th vs Steinbach, Jan. 9th vs WPG Monarchs, Jan 11th vs Neepawa, Jan. 13th @ Waywayseecappo
12 – Selkirk Steelers (-)
This week: 0-1
Overall: 15-16-2
Battled but fell just short in a massive game where even a point would have been huge. No time to hang their heads. If they want to climb back into the playoff picture, at least a point every game from here on out is crucial.
Player Spotlight: Dawson Madden – 1 goal in 1 game
Up Next: Jan. 10th vs Swan Valley, Jan. 13th @ Winkler
13 – Northern Manitoba Blizzard (-2)
This week: 0-2
Overall: 5-20-2-2
While not out of the playoff picture just yet, it will be a very tough mountain to climb. The group can embrace the role of spoiler, and they can take points away from teams while also boosting themselves for not just this year, but the future.
Player Spotlight: Carson Meyer – 1 goal in 2 games
Up next: Jan. 9th @ Waywayseecappo
