MJHL Power Rankings Presented by BUNGE | Week 5

How the MJHL Power Rankings work

The MJHL Power Rankings are designed to provide a data-driven snapshot of how all 13 teams are performing throughout the regular season. Each team’s ranking is calculated using a 100-point formula that considers both overall performance and recent results.

The formula includes Points Percentage (25%), Goal Differential per Game (10%), Goals For per Game (5%), Goals Against per Game (5%), Last 10 Games (15%), Last 5 Games (10%), Strength of Schedule (10%), Quality Wins (5%), Special Teams (5%), Home/Road Performance (5%) and Previous Ranking (5%).

The rankings are updated weekly throughout the regular season. As the season progresses, the formula increasingly reflects a team’s full-season body of work.

The Power Rankings are not a prediction of the final standings. They are intended to provide an objective, consistent and transparent measurement of team performance based on results and statistical performance throughout the season. Rankings represent performance from the previous Tuesday through Tuesday.

1. VIRDEN OIL CAPITALS (-)
Last week: 3-0
Overall: 10-1-0-0
Next: @ Nighthawks, @ Steelers, @ Wolverines

Virden continues to set the pace in the MJHL, extending its dominance with three consecutive wins during the latest stretch. The Oil Capitals defeated Dauphin 7–3 and 6–0 on either side of a convincing 6–1 victory over Niverville. With 10 wins in 11 games and a league-best plus-28 goal differential, Virden remains the team to beat.

2. WAYWAYSEECAPPO WOLVERINES (-)
Last week: 2-0
Overall: 8-2-0-1
Next: @ Nighthawks, @ Blues, vs Oil Capitals

Waywayseecappo remains firmly in second after picking up back-to-back wins. The Wolverines handled Selkirk 5–2 before routing Neepawa 6–1, continuing to demonstrate their offensive ability. With eight wins through 11 games, Waywayseecappo continues to establish itself as one of the MJHL’s top contenders.

3. STEINBACH PISTONS (-)
Last week: 2-1
Overall: 8-3-0-0
Next: vs Terriers, @ Terriers

Steinbach stays third despite their end to the week. The Pistons picked up a 4–3 overtime decision against Swan Valley, followed up with a dominant 9–2 win over Winnipeg Blues, then fell 6–5 to Selkirk. Steinbach’s 53 goals remain the highest total in the league, and its offensive firepower keeps the Pistons among the leading contenders.

4. NIVERVILLE NIGHTHAWKS (-)
Last week: 2-1
Overall: 6-2-1-0
Next: vs Oil Capitals, vs Wolverines

Niverville continues to hold fourth after collecting two wins in three games. The Nighthawks defeated Portage 6–3, suffered a 6–1 loss to Virden, then responded with a 4–0 shutout of Winnipeg Blues. With just nine games played and a plus-17 goal differential, Niverville remains one of the league’s most dangerous teams.

5. SWAN VALLEY STAMPEDERS (+1)
Last week: 1-1-1
Overall: 6-4-1-0
Next: @ Titans, @ Titans

Swan Valley moves into fifth after a week featuring a pair of strong performances. The Stampeders fell to Steinbach 4–3 in overtime and followed with a 6–2 victory over Winnipeg Monarchs before dropping a narrow 2–1 decision to Dauphin. Their positive goal differential and solid season-long record keep them ahead of the chasing pack.

6. SELKIRK STEELERS (+2)
Last week: 2-1
Overall: 7-3-3-0
Next: @ Flyers, vs Oil Capitals

The Steelers remain in contention in a crowded middle group, where every result can make a difference. Continued consistency and strong performances against quality opponents could help Selkirk make another move up the rankings.

7. DAUPHIN KINGS (-2)
Last week: 1-3
Overall: 6-6-2-0
Next: vs Monarchs

Dauphin drops as the rankings continue to tighten. The Kings have the potential to climb back up but putting together a sustained run of positive results will be important to regaining ground on the teams ahead of them.

8. WINKLER FLYERS (+2)
Last week: 2-1
Overall: 5-5-1-0
Next: vs Flyers, @ Blues

Winkler makes one of the week’s biggest moves, climbing two positions after a productive three-game stretch. The Flyers shut out Dauphin 3–0 and defeated Northern Manitoba 5–2 before dropping a 4–3 decision to the Blizzard. With points to be gained in the standings, Winkler will look to turn its recent progress into a more consistent run.

9. NORTHERN MANITOBA BLIZZARD (-)
Last week: 2-2
Overall: 7-8-0-0
Next: No games next week

Northern Manitoba splits its four most recent games, earning wins over Neepawa on October 17 and Winkler on October 20. The Blizzard also dropped decisions to Neepawa and Winkler during that stretch. Their offensive production has been respectable, but finding greater consistency defensively will be important moving forward.

10. PORTAGE TERRIERS (-3)
Last week: 0-1-1-1
Overall: 4-5-2-1
Next: @ Pistons, vs Pistons

Portage falls three spots after a difficult run against strong opposition. The Terriers lost 6–3 to Niverville, dropped a 6–5 overtime decision to Winnipeg Monarchs and suffered a 3–2 shootout loss to Selkirk. Portage remains within reach of the middle of the rankings, but will need to turn close games into points to climb back up.

11. NEEPAWA TITANS (-)
Last week: 1-1
Overall: 3-7-1-1
Next: vs Stampeders, vs Stampeders

Neepawa picked up an important 4–2 win over Northern Manitoba on October 16 but could not complete the weekend sweep, falling 4–3 the following night. The Titans then suffered a 6–1 loss to Waywayseecappo. Neepawa has shown flashes of progress, but stringing together consecutive wins remains the next challenge.

12. WINNIPEG MONARCHS (-)
Last week: 1-1
Overall: 3-7-1-0
Next: @ Kings

Winnipeg Monarchs earned a notable 6–5 overtime victory over Portage but were unable to carry that momentum into their next game, falling 6–2 to Swan Valley. The Monarchs have demonstrated they can compete in tight contests, and consistency across a full week will be key to moving up the rankings.

13. WINNIPEG BLUES (-)
Last week: 0-2
Overall: 2-7-0-0
Next: vs Flyers, vs Wolverines

Winnipeg Blues remain 13th after losses to Niverville and Steinbach. The Blues were shut out 4–0 by the Nighthawks before suffering a 9–2 defeat against the Pistons. With four points through nine games, Winnipeg will be looking to tighten up defensively and generate more consistent offensive production.
