Path to the Draft | Hedley & Spiller ready for Draft

One day away from the 2020 Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) Draft, team scouts and general managers are ready to go for when the draft opens on Sunday morning.

With tomorrow quickly approaching, Doug Headley and Blake Spiller shared their input on the importance of the Draft and what it means to have a meaningful MJHL event during the current COVID-19 pandemic in the final installment of ‘Path to the Draft’.

Doug Hedley | Dauphin Kings Head Coach & General Manager

“I really believe in the draft. Not only is it an opportunity to market your program, it also provides the organization with the foundation that will assist in the continuity and success. We are very excited for this years draft. The consensus is that this years class is a very deep draft for the organizations in our league.”

“The fact that we get eight picks in the first six rounds plus two very quality draft protected players in Kyan Grouette and Carter Zalischuk gives our organization the possibility of having ten players from this years class wearing our crest in a few years…priceless.”

Blake Spiller | Portage Terriers Head Coach & General Manager

“Our scouting staff spend a lot of hours in various rinks evaluating hockey players. The draft is always an exciting time for the scouts and players involved. With the pandemic putting the sporting world at a standstill it has been a positive diversion. We are looking forward to adding some new players to our organization.”
