Stampeders, Blizzard, Nighthawks & Oil Capitals win on Saturday

STAMPS BOUCNCE BACK IN WIN OVER BLUES
Swan Valley Stampeders 4, Winnipeg Blues 1

SWAN RIVER, MB – Trace Langan scored twice while Joe Naccarato made 27 saves to help the Swan Valley Stampeders down the Winnipeg Blues on Saturday night in Swan River.

The Stampeders put together a 60 minute effort after letting one slip away from their hands on Friday night to the Wolverines. Trace Langan scored in the opening minutes of the first and second periods before Chantyn Thompson extended the Stampeders lead to three.

Jaxin Karst got the Blues on the board halfway through the third but that would be as close as they could get after Dylan Ruff’s fifth of the season gave Swan Valley a 4-1 lead and the win.

Despite the loss, George Jantz was solid in the Blues crease, turning aside 39 of 43 shots. The Blues went 0-for-5 on the powerplay while the Stampeders went 0-for-3.

BLIZZARD SWEEP WEEKEND SET AGAINST STEELERS
Northern Manitoba Blizzard 6, Selkirk Steelers 0

THE PAS, MB – Six different Blizzard skaters hit the scoresheet while Kannen Kirkwood made 20 saves to help Northern Manitoba sweep their weekend set against Selkirk.

After a scoreless first period, the Blizzard came out guns blazing in the second, with Atticus Cruz, Renat Nahnieiev, Matthew O’Sullivan, and Brady Green, each scoring in a ten minute span.

In the third, Liam Carlone and Kanye Huang added to the Blizzard lead which helped Northern Manitoba take a 6-0 win to sweep their weekend series against the Steelers.

NIGHTHAWKS BLANK FLYERS
Niverville Nighthawks 3, Winkler Flyers 0

NIVERVILLE, MB – Ben Chornomydz pitched a 32-save shutout on Saturday night in Niverville to give the Nighthawks a big MGEU East Divisional win over the Flyers.

A pair of first period goals from Aiden McDonald and Tyler Bernier (SH) gave the Nighthawks enough they needed to secure a win on home ice. Ryker Rougeau added a late empty netter while Ben Chornomydz was excellent in the Nighthawks win.

Winkler went 0-for-8 on their powerplay opportunities while the Nighthawks went 0-for-5.

OIL CAPITALS WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT
Virden Oil Capitals 3, Neepawa Titans 2

NEEPAWA, MB – Carson Wright scored the game winner with eight seconds left in the game to lift the Virden Oil Capitals over the Neepawa Titans, earning their fifth straight win of the season.

After a scoreless first, Tyson Draper opened the scoring with his first of two on the night before Ryder Heapy and Jackson Kohut scored in under two minutes to give Neepawa a 2-1 lead. Just over a minute later, Draper scored short-handed for his sixth of the season to send the game tied at 2-2 heading into the final twenty.

With eight seconds left, Tyson Draper put a wraparound on net when the puck spilled out to the slot where Carson Wright put home the rebound and secured the win for Virden.

Neepawa went 0-for-6 on the man-advantage while Virden went 0-for-5. Kasey Fuson made 20 saves in the Oil Capitals net while Conner Nicolson turned in a 24 save performance for Neepawa.
