Make it 10 straight wins for the Selkirk Steelers.
After defeating the Wolverines, 6-2 on Thursday night in Waywayseecappo, the Steelers have got off to a dream start, rattling off 10 straight wins to open the season.
The Steelers have scored by committee in an impressive way, boasting 7 of the top 10 players in league scoring, which includes Rohan Guevarra, Luke McCarthy, Owen Warnick, Wyatt Witham, Owen Johnston, Remy Hlady, and Landon Jamieson.
To give some perspective on how impressive the start has been for the Steelers, it took until December 5th last season for the Steelers to earn their 10th win of the season, finishing the year with 25 total wins.
A big key to the Steelers success has been the play of returning goaltender, Noel Olsonawski, who leads the MJHL in goals against average (0.99), save percentage (0.960), wins (6), and shutouts (2).
Selkirk has clicked on special teams through those first 10 wins, owning a 26.2% conversion rate on the powerplay while earning a 90.5% clip on the penalty kill. The Steelers also own a league-best, +33 goal differential.
Heading into the second half of October, the Steelers will play 9 straight games against teams who made the postseason in 2023-24, giving a great test to a young and hungry team from Selkirk who will look to continue their strong play.
Next up for the Steelers is a date with the Neepawa Titans on Saturday night in Selkirk at 7:30.
