Terriers honour the late Geno Romanow

On Saturday October 30, 2021 the Portage Terriers honoured former trainer and equipment manager Geno Romanow who passed away on May 8, 2020.

Geno started with the Terriers in 1974 and faithfully served with the team until the time of his passing. Not one for attention, he quietly went about his work spending many late nights helping the team behind the scenes. Over the years he was adopted as a father figure and grandfather figure to many.

Geno’s memory will live on through the many players, staff and fans that he had an impact on during his 45 years with the team. The Portage Terriers Board of Directors, staff and players once again want to say thank you Geno for your commitment and dedication.

Saturday night we are joined by Geno’s wife Diane, son Randy, and daughter Lisa and we unveiled Geno’s Tunnel in his memory.  As he did for 45 years, Geno will continue to watch over the Terriers players every time they step on the ice.

The Romanow family asked that team captain Logan Calder unveil the tunnel.  Logan is the last active Terrier to play during Geno’s tenure.

Also a display commemorating Geno’s life and memories with the team was unveiled on the Hockey Wall of Fame near the main entrance.

UNVEILING CEREMONY .
