Viterra MJHL Power Rankings | Week 1

1st – OCN Blizzard
This week: 3-0
Overall: 3-0
Impressive Player: Goalie Chase Hamm – 3GP/2.00GAA/.938SV%/3 wins
Couldn’t have scripted a better opening weekend for the OCN Blizzard as they look to regain respect and instill fear across the MJHL landscape once again. Busy week upcoming where they’ll look to keep building that confidence.
Up Next: Sept. 23rd @ Steinbach, Sept. 24th @ Winkler, Sept.25th @ WPG Blues

2nd – Steinbach Pistons
This week: 2-0
Overall: 2-0
Impressive Player: Forward Ty Paisley – 2GP/1G/3A/4PTS
A rock-solid start for a team that’s used to getting off to a fast start. Steinbach has won back-to-back games to open the season now for a 4th consecutive season.
Up Next: Sept. 21st @ WPG Freeze, Sept. 23rd vs OCN, Sept. 25th vs Selkirk

3rd – Winkler Flyers
This week: 2-0
Overall: 2-0
Impressive Player: Forward Mike Svenson – 2GP/4G/1A/5PTS
Dream start for a team looking to cement themselves in the top tier of MJHL teams. It will be hard to outwork the Flyers on any given night.
Up Next: Sept. 21st vs Niverville, Sept. 23rd @ Niverville, Sept. 24th vs OCN

4th – Portage Terriers
This week: 2-0
Overall: 2-0
Impressive Player: Defenseman Jordan Murray – 2GP/0G/3A/3PTS
Good start for the team that will be watched by all across the province and by many outside Manitoba, knowing the road to the Centennial Cup runs through Terrier country.
Up Next: Sept. 24th vs Waywayseecappo, Sept. 25th @ Waywayseecappo

5th – Virden Oil Capitals
This week: 2-0
Overall: 2-0
Impressive Player: Forward Davis Chorney – 2GP/2G/1A/3PTS
They don’t ask how, they ask how many. For the Oil Caps, they don’t care if it takes overtime, they want to put points in the bank early and often.
Up Next: Sept. 23rd vs Neepawa, Sept. 24th @ Neepawa

6th – Dauphin Kings
This week: 1-1-1
Overall: 1-1-1
Impressive Player: Defenseman Anthony Bax – 2GP/2G/1A/3PTS
Back-to-back overtime games for the defending champs followed by an eye-opening loss in OCN is a bit of a mixed bag that comes with starting a new year. Nothing the Kings can’t learn and grow from.
Up Next: Sept.23rd @ Swan Valley, Sept. 24th vs Swan Valley

7th – Neepawa Titans
This week: 1-1-1
Overall: 1-1-1
Impressive Player: Forward Will Highet – 2GP/1G/1A/2PTS
Points in both games to start the year plus an overtime win at home is as solid a start as Neepawa has had. While they maybe feel that they left a point on the table, 3 out of 4 against the defending champs is a good weekend.
Up Next: Sept. 23rd @ Virden, Sept. 24th vs Virden

8th – Winnipeg Blues
This week: 1-1
Overall: 1-1
Impressive Player: Forward Dawson Zeller – 2GP/2G/1A/3PTS
Good response after getting run down on opening night. For a Blues team that needs scoring up and down the lineup, having 10 players register points over two games is a needed step.
Up Next: Sept. 23rd @Selkirk, Sept. 25th vs OCN

9th – Waywayseecappo Wolverines
This week: 0-0-2
Overall: 0-0-2
Impressive Player: Forward Jack Clarke – 2GP/1G/1A/3PTS
Twice the Wolverines trailed but found a way to tie the game before falling in overtime. They picked up 6 goals in the first two games all by different scorers.
Up Next: Sept. 24th @ Portage, Sept. 25th vs Portage

10th – Selkirk Steelers
This week: 0-1-1
Overall: 0-1-1
Impressive Player: Forward Lucas Brennan – 2GP/1G/2AST/3PTS
11 different players chipped in with points over the opening weekend. They’ll need their goaltending to hang tough while they find offence over the course of games.
Up Next: Sept. 23rd vs WPG Blues, Sept. 25th @ Steinbach

11th – Swan Valley Stampeders
This week: 1-2
Overall: 1-2
Impressive Player: Defenseman Collin Jennings – 2GP/1G/0A/1PT
A tough start for Swan only scoring two goals in two games but exploded against Neepawa. A big win where everyone contributes does wonders for confidence.
Up Next: Sept 23rd vs Dauphin, Sept. 24th @ Dauphin

12th – Niverville Nighthawks
This week: 0-2
Overall: 0-2
Impressive Player: Forward Brendan Bottem – 2GP/1G/1A/2Pts
After spending weeks waiting, the Nighthawks finally got onto the ice as a team. They showed they’ll be a scrappy bunch that will get wins thanks to their goalie and doing things by committee.
Up Next: Sept. 21st @ Winkler, Sept. 23rd vs Winkler, Sept. 25th @ WPG Freeze

13th – Winnipeg Freeze
This week: 0-2
Overall: 0-2
Impressive Player: Forward Nathan Lenoski – 2GP/2G/0A/2PTS
A very young team that will learn and grow together. May take some time but the Freeze will never cheat fans on effort and if teams want to take them lightly, they’ll get stung.
Up Next: Sept. 21 vs Steinbach, Sept. 25th vs Niverville
