Wolverines, Kings, Oil Capitals, Blizzard, and Pistons earn wins

KINGS BLANK BLUES

DAUPHIN, MB –Β 16-year-old Tate Barnaby stopped all 21 shots he faced as the Dauphin Kings cruised to a 5-0 home win over the Winnipeg Blues on Friday night.

Quinten Fisk, Landyn Garton, Carson Meyer, Bennett Muller, and Max George each scored for the Kings to help Dauphin earn their first win of the season on home ice.


The Kings begin a six-game road swing on Sunday that begins in a matchup against the Portage Terriers while the Blues get right back to it on Saturday night in Swan Valley against the Stampeders.

WOLVERINES WIN COMEBACK THRILLER

SWAN RIVER, MB –Β The Waywayseecappo Wolverines scored five unanswered goals in the final seven minutes of the game to pick up a big divisional win over the Swan Valley Stampeders.

It looked like it was over as Sam Grunewlad, Wylie Smith, and Dayson Martin each had scored to give the Stampeders a 3-0 lead going into the back half of the third period but the Wolverines just wouldn’t go away.

From the 13:02 mark to 19:15 in the third, Blake Farthing, Max Collyer, Carter Haney, and Ian Buors (x2), scored for the Wolverines to earn a big comeback victory.

PISTONS DOUBLE UP MONARCHS
Steinbach Pistons 6, Winnipeg Monarchs 3

STEINBACH, MB –Β Powered by four, first period goals, the Steinbach Pistons rolled to a 6-3 win in front of 1,800 plus at the Southeast Event Centre on Friday night.

Holding a 4-0 lead with goals from Parson Shahi, Griffin Krone x2, and Marek Miller, the Monarchs made it a two-goal deficit when Carter Kingerski scored late in the first and Chase Gregg scored early in the second.


That’s as close as things would get with the Pistons adding another pair which included a highlight effort from Caden Lave. Kingerski later scored his second of the evening for the Monarchs.

OIL CAPITALS SHUTOUT TITANS
Virden Oil Capitals 3, Neepawa Titans 0

VIRDEN, MB –Β Lucas Laramee recorded the game winner while Micky Gross turned aside all 16 shots he faced to help the Virden Oil Capitals blank the Neepawa Titans at Tundra Oil & Gas Place.

The Virden Oil Capitals played a strong game, earning a goal in each period with Lucas Laramee, Brooks Siemens, and Tyson Draper hitting the scoresheet.

Virden outshot Neepawa, 43-16 in the win on Friday night to help the Oil Capitals earn their fourth straight win of the season.

These two clubs meet in the rematch on Saturday night in Neepawa.

BLIZZARD OUST THE STEELERS
Northern Manitoba Blizzard 8, Selkirk Steelers 3

THE PAS, MB –Β Kannen Kirkwood made 34 saves while the Northern Manitoba Blizzard earned contributions from up and down the lineup to earn a home win over the Selkirk Steelers on Friday night.

The Blizzard jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period thanks to goals from Renat Nahnieiev, Gavin Rusenstrom, Odile Grenier, and Sutten Emelson, three of which came on the powerplay.

Noah Paulsen scored his seventh of the season while Isaac Sousa notched his fourth that would bring the Steelers back within a pair. With just one second left in the middle frame, Hugo Brisebois scored to give the Blizzard a 5-2 lead going into the third.


Northern Manitoba would score three more times in the third, with Kade Stringer, Matthew O’Sullivan, and Gavin Rusenstrom giving the Blizzard eight goals on the night.

These two clubs get right back to it on Saturday night as the rematch goes at 7 from the Roy H. Johnston arena in The Pas.
