Winnipeg, MB – The Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) and its member clubs are pleased to announce the 2019 Auto-Protect list.  Each member club is given the opportunity to list two players born in 2004 from their respective home zone.  The Auto-Protect list features 21 players identified who will no longer be eligible for the upcoming 2019 MJHL Draft.

This year’s Auto-Protect list contains a total of ten (10) forwards, nine (9) defensemen, two (2) goalies including nine (9) invites to the Hockey Manitoba U-16 POE Top-40 Camp last month and nine (9) selected in the 2019 WHL Draft.

“The auto-protects are an important process for our clubs prior to the draft that can be challenging but very rewarding towards their future success” comments Commissioner Kim Davis.  Many players who are protected in this process go onto become solid pillars of a club,  recent examples being Nick Henry and Tyler Kirkup.  Henry, auto-protected by the Portage Terriers in 2014, went onto win the league’s rookie fo the year award and helped the Terriers earn a Turnbull Cup championship setting his path to the WHL and eventual NHL draft.  Kirkup was auto-protected by the Oil Capitals in 2013, he played three seasons with Virden as a top-end contributor before advancing to Bemidji State University (NCAA) on scholarship.

With only six days remaining before the league AGM and draft, the 2019 Auto-Protect list kicks off a busy week for league and club personnel.  The 2019 MJHL Draft will commence on Sunday, June 9 at 9:00 AM.  Powered by Hockey Tech the MJHL Draft utilizes RinkNet Live Draft Centre technology to operate the entire draft proceedings. RinkNet Live Draft Centre provides a complete solution for leagues and teams to efficiently manage their draft day preparation and execution.  These confirmed draft picks are then made available online to the public in real-time for the benefit of all teams, players, and fans.  Keep posted to @mjhlhockey on social media for round-by-round draft summaries or follow live at www.mjhlhockey.ca/draft.
