CALGARY, AB – The Northern Manitoba Blizzard fell 5-4 in overtime to the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Trenton Golden Hawks on Thursday afternoon at the Centennial Cup after their comeback effort landed just short.

It took a while for both the Blizzard and Golden Hawks to find their game in the first period as they would skate to a scoreless opening twenty minutes. Trenton held an 11-6 lead on the shot clock while the Blizzard killed off the lone penalty in the period.

The second period was quite the opposite of the first as the Blizzard and Golden Hawks would combine for six goals. After Trenton took a two-goal lead, Miguel Bouvier scored shorthanded to get Northern Manitoba on the board.

Just eight seconds later, Trenton responded to regain their two-goal lead. Tyler Bernier took the puck in the corner and skated to the slot before finding the back of the net to cut the deficit to one.

On a late powerplay, Esteban Cinq-Mars found the back of the net from the slot to tie the game at 3-3 heading into the third period.

Trenton gained a 4-3 lead early in the third period while the Blizzard continued to push, outshooting the Golden Hawks, 21-4 in the frame.

With Timmerman on the bench for the extra attacker, Tyler Bernier jumped on a loose puck and buried the rebound to tie the game with just over a minute to play, sending the game to overtime.

In overtime, Trenton scored on a powerplay opportunity and took a 5-4 win. The Blizzard earned one valuable point in the overtime loss and will now prepare to take on the Greater Sudbury Cubs (NOJHL) on Saturday night in Calgary.
