Former Saints’ coach Anning named Wheat King head coach

David Anning, a former captain and head coach of the Winnipeg Saints is now the head coach of Brandon Wheat Kings.

He’ll be joined by another MJHL alumni, Don MacGillivray who is leaving the Winnipeg Blues to be an assistant coach with the Kings. This is Mac’s second stint in the WHL, once being an assistant coach/head coach with Prince Albert Raiders.

Anning replaces long-time Wheat King head coach Kelly McCrimmon, who was recently named assistant GM with the new Las Vegas NHL franchise. McCrimmon is also owner of the Wheat Kings.

Anning, a defenceman, played four seasons with the Saints, eventually moving on to be an assistant coach with Dauphin Kings.‎

“This is a tremendous accomplishment for both David and Don,” MJHL Comissioner Kim Davis said. “The profile of the MJHL continues to increase.”
